I bought a pedometer this weekend. Now when I go walking along the beach, I can see how far I've gone. And I'll stay bikini-trim! :floor: (Laughing at my own joke because you know what they say about the spirit being willing but the flesh being weak...)

Next thing I want is a kiyak but I'm waffling on that a bit because I don't know anything about them except that they look way cool out on the water. I have horrific memories of over ten years ago, canoeing with my husband in the North Georgia mountains, and almost coming to blows with him over the fact that someone (I'm not naming names) kept paddling and making the canoe go round and round in circles. I'm afraid it might be deja vue with a kiyak, but as I said, they look soooooo cool; it makes me want one anyway!

Kayaks are fun and they come in one or two person varieties. Rent one and try before you buy.

easy fix is to get solo kayak(s).

Kurt is right, rent them first and work a deal so that if you buy one, they will give your rental fee back. Yellowfin, in Grayton Corners, is having a sale on used kayaks, and a few specials on new ones.

FYI - The longer the kayak, the faster it can go, but the more difficult it is to turn. If you are looking for something to putz around in the waves, look for a shorter boat, which will enable you to ride the waves.

Thanks for the advice (and the correct spelling  ). What about the round-and-round factor that nearly drove me to divorce? If we get in a two-man kayak, and he's right-handed and I'm left handed, will a kayak go crooked in the water like a canoe does?

Or does this really boil down to "get in the water and try it yourself" scenario? I reallly, really, am fascinated with kayaks--see them all the time around sunset when we're in the water and it's calm out on the gulf--but on the other hand, I reallly, really love my husband. I don't want to kill him over ziggedy zaggedy rowing!

I highly recommend one-seaters for many reasons. If you want to play together, buy two. By the way, with a kayak, you use a double sided paddle so you should be able to go straight if you are coordinated. Thinking about the canoe, when paddling on opposite sides, you should be able to go fairly straight only if you guys are putting out similarly equal power. ie- if he is a lazy guy and not paddling as hard as you, the boat will steer to one side. Now if you guys are both paddling on the same side, you will circle around. There are several other ways to circle. ... I would definitely get two solo boats.

I have a sit on top kayak single person. It does well in the lake and the gulf. I love it. It's nice by yourself too. Clears the mind in no time. Get one and have a blast!!

Hey, is it easy to dump yourself out of one of those things? I would imagine its pretty hard to get back in if you're out deep.
