Bing Introduces 3-D Photosynth Maps | TechWatch | Fast Company

In an effort to beat Google at mapping, Microsoft Bing will use crowd-sourced photos to create a 3-D virtual worlds in its Maps application, the company has told FastCompany.com. The 3-D models will eventually be knitted into Bing Maps' existing aerial and street-views and will allow users to explore and zoom at a level of detail that Google and Yahoo Maps can't presently match. An exclusive screenshot of the new technology, which goes live Wednesday, shown above.

I've been using Bing now for about three months. In the past trying out new search engines ended hours after switching due to frustration. Bing however is still my default. There are things about it that are equal or better than google. Pretty impressive stuff for a company everybody wrote off in the search engine space long ago. I wish they would update their satelite imagery though for maps, google is still the place to go for that. You can pile on features all you want, but if your imagery sucks, nobody cares.

It will be interesting when we start talking to our search engines and they start learning things about us and our preferences.

I Bing as my default as well. Bing maps are good. All major cities have bird's eye views and they are neat. Pretty cool to view all four elevations of your house.
