Black Bear off 30A

About 3:00 AM my neighbors saw a big black bear in their back yard. It was located north of 30A at Camp Creek Lake. Cats have gone missing lately and we thought that was a bobcat. So now at Camp Creek Lake we have Black Bears, Red Wolves, foxes, raccoons, bobcats, and many snakes.

This is much better than the violence in ATL.

I've never heard of a bear bothering a cat. I hear coyotes love to eat cats though and we have lots of coyotes. Probably wolves also but they are new to the area and probably not too many around here yet.

A black bear was reported in Grayton Beach recently on the south side of 30A. There have been some spotted in Point Washington lately also. They must be making a comeback in SoWal. We used to have lots of them but they were nearly eliminated by hunting. Hopefully they will have the sense to stay away from 30A but with all the easy food from garbage cans and dumpsters we may see trouble.

Black Bears could certainly take down a cat if the cat is lazy or injured, but most cats could probably escape a bear chase fairly easily. For the most part, a Black Bear's diet around hear would be mostly vegetarian, with the proteins coming from insects, unless it is getting into your garbage, then it is eating the same foods we are eating.

Consider yourself lucky when you see any of those animals you mention. In general, they are not a harm to humans, though the one killer of them all is humans. If you want concrete and asphalt, rather than nature, South Walton may not be the right place.
