I thought this was a well thought out op ed piece written by a "regular" person, not a journalist or reporter.

Do the pastors of Christian churches in our area approve of the kind of rhetoric coming from the haters of diversity that express their anger in the comments? If you are a pastor or a priest, I am pleading for you to spend some time reading these comments. I am hopeful that you might find a reason to craft some sermons to quell zealotry and the self-righteous rage that people in a fit of religiosity are directing at anyone whom they consider an outsider to their tribe.

I find it distressing how many people are so adamantly opposed to President Obama...I was opposed to many things that President Bush did, especially the Iraq war and the Patriot Act, and the torture...but I never found it necessary to make my opposition so personal as so many do with President Obama.

It is a sad statement on our society right now IMO and a very dangerous example for our children of all races and faiths.

Bush Lied People Died was a common bumper sticker just a few years ago.

Obama is more dangerous to our kids than bumper stickers.

The same could be said about the Bush hating stickers and there were lots of them......Par for the course and freedom of speech.
It swings both ways........

It's unfortunate when it gets personal. I'm not a fan of this either. What people are really dissatisfied with is policy. The emotional responses tend to show up when people are stressed. 9/11, the wars, and the recession all trigger this.

Obama is just a politician who promotes certain policies. He was elected by a wide majority. The democrats were given wide majorities in congress via the 2006 and 2008 elections. If people are dissatisfied with what they've done with that power, they can undo it. But there's no need to attack these people on a personal level or inject religion into the discussion.

People who are against the policies of politicians in power should take the high road rather than step down into the muck. "He did it first" isn't the adult response.

Sinclair Lewis said "When Fascism comes to America, it will appear as a cross wrapped in a flag'. Well guess what folks? We're seeing it right here in northwest Florida. It's ground zero for that movement.

I don't agree with that. I think you are blowing things out of proportion.

Actually it isn't the same thing. Obama is a Christian, he has stated this on numerous occasions. Are we to the point of intolerance in this country that someone can declare their religion and still have people state they are not?

As to the Bush comparison, he did lie so he could send troops into another country under false pretenses and some of those troops have died. I don't see the correlation between the two, but I understand the point you are trying to make.
