Just returned from my annual trek to Canyon Ranch in the Catalina Mountains outside Tucson, a wonderfully rejuvenating experience. Lots of excellent one-on-one instruction in nutrition, strengthening and aerobics, and uncluttering of the mind. I can't recommend this place highly enough. It is not just a health and beauty spa, folks and is appreciated by women and men alike, people of all ages and from all walks of life. Interval training is the answer, it seems and I am prepared and outfitted for the commitment now. In a more aesthetic mode...
Morning nature hikes every morning, lectures on the arts and classes on various aspects of well being, a swim+massage+nap most afternoons, evening music and delicious, healthy dinners with excellent conversation. Each morning and again at dusk, a family of javelinas shuffled along the wash next to the terrace of my casita, vacuuming up the spare parts from prickly pear cacti (includ needles!), spent seed purses from sweet acacia trees, and intensely blue jacaranda blossoms. There is a gila monster on the property who looks so regal sitting on a big rock with his crest unfurled. Birding was spectacular, as was the weather---mild temps and clear skies by day, a little flash flood one night and dramatic thunderstorms on several others, followed the next day with a paintbox of desert color. What a tonic!
SoWal, here we come in October!
