cleaning rates? (a poll!)

ok...but I haven't heard any harrowing stories of ill fated cleaners?:idontno:
 Glad to hear it! LOL ..But there is a difference between a person who comes in to clean a "unit" and a person who is hired to "clean". With a unit, you can bust in there and do what you know has to be done (clean toilets, showers, change linens, sweep/vacuum/mop etc.) But to go into a house with someone sitting there saying "well...today lets do this & this & this." And just when you think youre done they say "well...now I want this done." It can lead to a stressful situation if you have other obligations and think you will be done in 2 hours and now it has turned into 4.5 hours. You would need a very tactful person that can say " Im sorry but, I can only be here for X hours today so you need to just give me a list and I will do what I can in that amount of time."

We have been using a wonderful lady for about a year now - we live in a 3 br, 3.5 bath house and we are freakishly neat and tidy most of the time BUT having said that, she comes every week - one week we pay her $125 for deep clean (she says it takes her about 3 hours) and the following week we pay $50 for a quick surface clean.

It should take 3 to 4 hours just to clean a 3 bedroom home. A deep clean should take much longer. You get what you pay for in this business. You're not only paying for a cleaning. You need to have someone that you can trust in a home (insurance is important!), someone you can count on to be there when you tell them to, someone that will respond quickly when there is a problem, and someone who is willing to work on short notice if they are doing rentals.

Someone in this thread was spot on in saying that it is very hard work, and work that not many people are wanting to do. The turnover rate is high and people do burn out quickly. You are really investing in the people running the business more than the people cleaning the home to be honest.

It's also very true that the people that rent the beachfront homes at $10,000/week trash the home as much as the people paying $500/week. It's almost like they're obligated to since they are paying so much money! ha
