Colorado School Hostage Crisis...

I just learned from CNN that the deadly school hostage crisis occurred in Jefferson County, CO, the same county school system as Columbine. Some of the same SWAT members and deputies were also on the scene at Columbine when this catastrophe occurred. How awful this must be for everyone involved.

My heart goes out to all of them, especially the family and friends of the 16 year old Emily Keyes, who died.

I know guns don't kill people, *people* kill people. But sometimes America's gun culture just makes me sick.
Bailey is in one of the most beautiful spots ever. My cousins have a 19th century ranch up there, as well as a historic cabin right on the lake. We've spent many a weekend there.

very sad, inconceivable

I saw this story in the news today....it just breaks my heart.

I can't imagine sending my child to school and they never return, so very sad.

It just goes to remind us that people have problems -- It matters not, one's career, nor friends, nor location.

Imagine the Sheriff's thoughts when he received the call, knowing that his son was in that school. I saw reports that Bailey is such a small town, where everyone knows everyone. The Sheriff knew the girl who died and her family. Another sad day for the people in that area and their families.:(

This is why I make a point EVERYDAY to tell my son I love him and get a hug and kiss from him before he leaves for school. It is so sad that any of us have to think the thought "He/She might not come home today". But I do think about it everyday. Every since Columbine and all of the other schools that have had similar things happen. My heart aches for the girls family and friends. I can't imagine how this person got into this school. It is so scary. I know that I should not live in fear, but I do when it comes to my son. I just hope this family can heal. :(

It is so sad. My sister in law and her family live in Bailey. She is a teacher in the Jefferson County School District and her husband is a SWAT officer there. He was called to that school. I called them to see how there were, and he wasn't ready to talk about it yet. He was also called to Columbine in 1999.

I'll never forget Columbine. I got home from work early to find the kids glued to the TV. My daughter was crying, my son was praying. They were in high school themselves and it made a big impact on them.

Bethie was a senior and was to receive a local scholarship the next day at school. She didn't know it, but the school had let me know so I could be there when she was surprised with it. They school was overrun with newscasters the next day, they followed her around and made a big deal about good kids vs bad kids. It was her moment of fame and she hated it. She didn't want the focus on her when so many kids where killed. It was sad really because she associates that sadness to that time. It was a loss of innocence for many people.
