So 15% of the U.S. population are now considered 'back alley' folks. Nice.

I, like many others, was bought into the fold via the organized religion I have experienced personally since childhood--and it was far from an alley.

It's probably a lot lower than the actual number.

Along with the place religion holds in our culture I am also fascinated with the place atheism holds.

For many closeted nonbelievers it is social/professional suicide to come out.

Zip3's earlier post is a fine example of the stigma attached to folks who simply see things a different way.
