Enrichment Programs for Children

Over the past few weeks, many of you have heard the exciting news of the upcoming opening of Compass Rose Academy in South Walton County. Community Based Enrichment Programs will be an integral part of what Compass Rose Academy offers the children of our area. We want to know what you, as a parent in our community, want for your children in terms of these enrichment activities. Below
is a list of activities that are being considered. Please copy and paste this survey into email form and send it to compassroseacademy@yahoo.com. Your input will be used to help determine the activities that will be included in our program as well as when they will be incorporated.

Please use a 1 to 5 scale to show your interest.
1 = I can wait a while for this program
And
5 = I WANT THIS PROGRAM NOW!

Thank you so much for your help and we look forward to surveying our community!

Thanks,
Christine Buscarello

I thought Beef O' Bradys was a family pub?

I think they call themselves a sports bar but it is more family oriented though.
(It's not like it's a Hooters or Sammys or AJ's). I've been there for lunch several times & during the day it's mostly empty & rather calm.

About the "Bar"

To Everyone:

Thank you for your concern and your comment. We are working with Sandestin and the county on this issue. I was told that we would need to apply for a waiver to have a school in the proximity of a bar. I was also told that one of the other private schools in the area had to hold a waiver as well because they were located to close to 3 ?bars?.

I drove by Beef?s tonight, their sign did say something along the lines of ?Family Sports Pub?, and it also says this on their website. They also have pictures of children on their website and on their commercial. Here is their website if you would like to look further into it: www.beefobradys.com

As a side note:
We are actually in the process of talking with different on sight restaurants to see if any one of them would like to provide bagged lunches for the students of Compass Rose Academy (for a flat fee). Beef's is one of them. (This all still very in the works and nothing has been determined or decided yet.)

I would also ask for this thread to be used for the purposed that I intended it. Please let us know which programs you would like Compass Rose Academy to offer to the public on a daily bases.

If you have any further questions or comments please feel free to email me directly at cbflgrl8806@yahoo.com !

Thank you all so much,

Christine Buscarello

they actually have a picture of little league team on their home page. apparently, they're trying to market themselves as a "family restaurant". but you really mostly see people drinking there. so does a "family pub" mean they serve minors? even in England pubs don't allow minors.

apparently the village of baytowne wharf tries to market themselves as a "family friendly" place, but all I see there are bars with drunks spilling out of them and VERY loud music blasting from a PA system and a couple of kids stores. hardly "kid friendly" from a parent's perspective.

Gateway Academy is across the street from Buster's Bar & Grill - I don't remember anyone having a problem with that...

You must be at Baytowne at night only. During the day it's quite nice, you should try it. I don't live in Sandestin Resort, but when there are family events we attend and don't come across what you have seen. I have also been there at night with out the kids and have seen the loud bar scene.

The Market Shops area is a nice clean area, and I wish the school all the best.

no. we don't take our daughter out at night. it was during the day.
but then, we're just used to a different environment for children like gymborees and children's museums and no PAs when playing music for little ears. it was a surprise for us to see basically bars and shopping in a "family" area.

and it appears that here there's no big deal here about having safety zones (with cross guards, etc) or business zones protecting school neighborhoods.

after seeing some of the responses, i realize now it's probably just the difference in the local culture. being big city people, it will take time to get accustomed. i hope i didn't offend anyone.

Some very wonderful people are getting this academy off the ground. I'm sure constructive criticism is appreciated. Let's support all of our local school choices.

I hope parents with interest or concern about the school will contact Compass Rose Academy directly, attend the parent meetings, and get the scoop directly from staff.

Thanks Ms Sherrie and Ms Christine for this survey - and for your service to our community and its children over the years - its about time you do this school!!! Ms Sherrie has worked with our children for many, many years in the pool and in the classroom. Her background in child development, teaching and consulting is extensive! we're fortunate to have someone with her experience and knowledge in SoWal!

we are especially blessed to have an array of school choices for our children, whose needs are so diverse. Education opportunities in SoWal are expanding and its truly wonderful to see.
