I have a friend whose former employee erased most of the things off of her laptop before giving it back. :bang: :bang: Isn't there a way to retrieve these

items??? If so, who can I call????

 ...OMG, that is tragic. I can't do anything to help but shake my head though.

Did she uninstall programs? or just files?
If she uninstalled programs, then she has to re-install them.

If she deleted just files. tell her to look in the recycle bin - the smarty pants may have forgotten to erase them from there too.

Your friend also may want to do a system restore with XP, but that gets a little complicated. If the girl deleted the programs and did not unstall correctly, system restore helps fix program glitches:

Thats a shame. Next time if your friend gives an employee a laptop, make sure she has full admin on it so no changes can be made.

Thanks for the info, I will pass it on to her. The girl that worked for my friend was her office manager so she did have full access. Oh well I will see if any of these things will work for her.....

Tell her to look in the recycle bin first though, cause if she just deleted files, she can restore them from the recycle bin. I didn't mention that before.
Sorry. If they are there, just select all files, and then click restore.

I have a network and I never gave anyone full admin to any files.
It is probably worthwhile for your friend to hire a geek and set up her network and walk her through priviledges and how to use it. It can get a little complicated, but once you learn its easy to figure out. ;-)

My laptop crashed in May 2005...losing all of my business info was not an option...and I hadn't done my taxes yet (filed an extension). I was freaking out!! I used a company call ACR Data Recovery; took about 2 weeks but they recovered about 98% of my data. It's not cheap, but the good news is that you only pay a minimal fee, around $75.00, to find out how much is recoverable, then you pay to have them make discs so you can restore your data. They also gave me an estimate of the final cost before I began the process. Believe me, nothing is ever really gone from your computer...I couldn't believe how much previously deleted stuff there was.
