Belief has dropped sustantially in society because our understanding of realities of the universe is much different than it was 50 years ago. It's understandable how people would be skeptical. Quit reading Conservapaedia. Anyone calling for a return to god in schools is really calling for forced indoctrination against a very resistant audience. The decline of faith is not the result of the absence of god in our schools, rather it is the other way around. As for Huckabee, his ulterior motive is to transform our country into a theocracy. He has stated this explicitly. He's a snake in the grass. If I see him around town, I'll be sure to say that to his face.

As he stuttered about the players started to look at one another, and finally Bush gave up and said it was "the place where they keep the books". He then joked that he hoped no one in the press were around to make fun of him. That this man is a mental lightweight like Rick Perry is not even debatable. The worldview they promote is pure poison. Who is David Sedaris?

I dunno Bob, I have not been shopping for ammo lately. Don't own a gun, except for a BB gun. What are YOU doing poking around in the ammo depots of the south? Not sure about the NRA convention-not a member and don't really care what they are doing. Not sure about Bush and Perry, neither is terribly relevant to me since I am not a Texan and Bush is minding his own business somewhere. Why are you so grumpy? Would you please go listen to Satchmo singing What a Wonderful World and remind yourself that whatever worldview Perry and Bush promote seems to have hit a serious roadblock?!

I think Mike Huckabee has a house in Grayton. So, you might get that chance. I don't agree with his suggestion that we change the Constitution. I like the Constitution the way it is. But, I believe the Constitution and its amendments are designed to provide us with our liberties, not our limitations. The way I interpret the Constitution, it shouldn't be a problem for students, guest speakers, or faculty to pray in public schools.

Oh... Karl Rove has a house in Rosemary, if anyone wants to give old Turd Blossom their own political opinions. I've never seen him there. Wouldn't it be funny to see him with a suntan?

Ammunition shelves are - and have been for a while - bare. It sucks. I enjoy poking holes in paper from medium distances with lead alloys traveling at supersonic speed. That's my hobby. You can buy all the shotgun ammo you would ever want. But, there are no skeet/trap shooting ranges here. Anyone know of the closest place to go?
 
It's not a problem in general for a person to pray in public schools. It is a problem for him to impose this on a captive audience. When people say they want to put God back in the schools, they mean they want forced mandatory group prayer, as if this will magically cure what ails society. I do appreciate the Huck's words though. The very fact that he wants to amend the Constitution shines a light on the fact that we are not a nation founded on god as some would have you believe, and he knows it.

I see eye-to-eye with you on what you are saying. That is a very well blazed path of constitutional debate. But, that approach places an impossible standard on the kind of school prayer I think we could benefit from.

It is comforting and encouraging to hear someone else appeal to God for your safety, well being, etc. Soul, psyche... Those blessings land somewhere.

I believe "You can pray. But you can't pray out loud." neuters the experience.
 
What is wrong with a "moment of silence" for reflection in any way you wish at the beginning of the school day? Yes, I believe in a Supreme Being but do not participate in organized religion. If some of you had been through what I have, you'd believe in someone looking over you, too.
 
My primary residence, for now, is in the "great" state of Illinois. Illinois is the only state that does not have a concealed carry law, and furthermore, handguns are outlawed in Chicago. Let me be the first to invite those who feel threatened amongst legal gun owners, who have chosen to exercise their constitutional right to protect themselves, to enjoy a stroll through Chicago and tell me how safe they feel because handguns are banned there. To quote Thomas Jefferson, "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

i was looking to buy a soon to be rusted bike at wal mart for my daughter who lives in jax beach. I have a running joke with the sporting goods manager about the empty ammo case, and all the scared white folks who scrounge for ammo every day. Bush and Perry? They are revered in the good ole south....the same south that made satchmo a second class citizen.
