Concealed weapon permits in Walton County

New posts
My primary residence, for now, is in the "great" state of Illinois. Illinois is the only state that does not have a concealed carry law, and furthermore, handguns are outlawed in Chicago. Let me be the first to invite those who feel threatened amongst legal gun owners, who have chosen to exercise their constitutional right to protect themselves, to enjoy a stroll through Chicago and tell me how safe they feel because handguns are banned there. To quote Thomas Jefferson, "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
If you don't live in the south side of chicago, why would you need to carry? try to reference gun ownership in this century and how a nation of 300 million plus needs several million barney fifes packing heat at your local safeway. salukis only roam southern illinois, no?

Interesting that you bring up your first point. Illinois has been ordered by a Federal judge to enact a concealed carry law no later then June 6, 2013. This was brought about by a lawsuit filed by a lady named Mary Shepard from the small town of Anna. pop. 5400, in southern Illinois. She and another elderly lady were attacked by a convicted criminal as they worked at their clerical jobs in a local church. Mary has had firearms training, and has both a Florida and a Pennsylvania concealed carry permit, but is not allowed that same protection in Illinois. They both were severly beaten, Mary suffered, among other injuries, four skull fractures, she was airlifted to a St Louis hospital, 110 miles away.

Out of curiosity, how many of the so-called "barney fifes" end up shooting someone at the local Safeway? Do you not feel that the lady in the above article would be exponentially better off had she been armed on that afternoon? And by-the-way, Anna, IL is pretty much Mayberry, it is 350 miles south of Chicago's southside, and I just happen to reside two miles away. Having spent 6 years in the military, as well as a lifetime of hunting, I feel I am adequately qualified to responsibly carry a firearm, and come next year you will be able to add another barney fife to the list. Cheers.

Six years in the military means nothing regarding you carrying in public where, at a moment's notice you can become judge, jury and executioner. You're doing nothing but placating your fears, and making it more dangerous for everyone walking around in public. keep your firearms at home please or join the barneys.

I answered your question, but you have conveniently ignored mine. As to the training aspect, I am supposing you are aware that states have instituted training programs prior to issuing permits? And I suspect you were not in the military. I will let you tell the lady from Illinois she should not be allowed to defend herself.

As far as I know, private businesses have every right to designate their establishments, including their parking lots as gun-free zones. I wonder what ort of effect this will have on the "carry-everywhere" people from a a logistical standpoint. It's going to create some major headaches for them I would imagine, if they are out and about and just one of their planned destinations doesn't allow firearms on their premises. If I were a business owner, I would not want people carrying in my establishment. While guns can serve a legitimate purpose in self-defense, I definitely do not feel safer among those who feel they need to have a gun each and everywhere they go, be it a movie theater, a shopping mall, or a church. This is the height of fear-based irrational thinking resulting from a low-level of emotional intelligence. Such people are to be avoided at all costs.

i was looking to buy a soon to be rusted bike at wal mart for my daughter who lives in jax beach. I have a running joke with the sporting goods manager about the empty ammo case, and all the scared white folks who scrounge for ammo every day. Bush and Perry? They are revered in the good ole south....the same south that made satchmo a second class citizen.

Awww Bob, I hate to see your caucasian onus syndrome flaring so terribly on a pretty spring day. Look on the bright side, all you need to worry about now are Barneys and not Bulls, if you know what I mean.

Just spent several weeks at UAB Hospital Trauma center waiting room, Bham, as my niece was in a car accident. We were in the waiting room round the clock. You would NOT believe the shooting victims and their families in and out every day, all night long. Most didn't hang out as the victim did not survive. Many did hang out as their family member was barely hanging on. We got to know some of the families and found out about the security in place at the hospital to see their family member, so that the shooter can't return to finish the job. I don't have the numbers but my guess is that there are more gun wounds in that unit than car accidents, motorcycle accidents, crack burns, etc all put together. In the course of one evening, there were at least five new victims, all unrelated, in the trauma unit.

No one cares. It barely makes the news anymore. One old grandmother of a large family in the waiting room told her 12 year old grandson, who was almost fainting after seeing his loved one dead, that he needs to get used to it.

No one cares. I can't imagine. I'm still stunned. I don't even know what to think anymore about guns and violence, which are connected in every way.

You suspect wrongly. I have served, and I was raised shooting competitively. I have seen my share of stupid mistakes by knuckleheads with loaded guns in their hands, and the idea of several million Barney's out there looking to right all perceived wrongs is truly appalling. Unless you are carrying money, working in a high crime area, or have a compelling need to arm yourself, you are making a grave mistake packing on a daily basis. keep it at home! the lady from illinois can defend herself by having a gun at home. we don't need everyone walking the streets like dodge city in a redneck's wet dream.

of course you know what the phrase"down the river" meant....in all it's southern charm and courtesy...the onus will be around at least a century or two.
