The Sandestin Owners Association is proud to announce that beginning in mid November we will introduce a county wide pilot recycling program in partnership with Waste Manage-ment. The program will consist of four phases.Phase 1 will introduce curb side recy-cling to full time single family dwell-ing residents.
How will this work?
The SOA Sanitation personnel will begin delivering recycle bins to those residents with a Sandestin mailing address in early Novem-ber. The bin will have a flyer that includes details regarding what type of items are acceptable in the re-cycle bin. The schedule for pick up will be every Wednesday morning, beginning at 7:00 am. Beginning in mid November, residents will place their bin of recyclables on the curb and Waste Management will collect the items using a ?pup truck?, which is a mini version of a waste pick up truck.
Phase 2 is scheduled to start in early December and will expand the project to include the multi-unit buildings (mid-rises and high-rises) on the south side of the resort. Once the details are worked out on what is most ef-ficient for these types of buildings, phase 3 will begin in January, which will include extending the service to the multi-unit buildings on the north side of the resort. The specifics on how recycling services will be offered and administered in these types of buildings will be forwarded when approved.
Property Services Director, Kyle Ray will work with the manager of each building to discuss the best solution for their environment based on space available and the type of residents within the building. (IE: full-time residents vs. rentals) The fourth and final phase of the project is planned for February of 2011 and will offer the recycling service to the rental guests. We realize this may be the most chal-lenging phase and will be working with the rental management compa-nies to discuss how we can effectively implement this phase to ensure suc-cess. Recycling is an important step for-ward in helping to create a ?green community? and the benefits are vast. Environmental Waste alone recycled enough material in one year to fill the Empire State Building 12.5 times! With just a few simple changes in our daily habits, we can help increase that number greatly!
