friday night some nut hopped over the counter at the cvs downtown here and told them "don't worry, i'm a nice guy" then demanded some painkillers (oxycontin) which is the drug of choice in this area along with meth. anyway - the pharmacist gave him what he wanted, the nut thanked the workers there, and jumped back over the counter and left. saturday morning this woman called the police and said these 2 guys she had been partying with the night before were dead - and it was the nice guy and his buddy - they both od'd crushing oxycontin and snorting it.

How terribly sad. What is in Oxycontin that is addictive? I have heard so much about this drug and always wondered.

it is a very potent narcotic, originally designed for cancer patients in whom it works very well in controlling their pain. unfortunately the junkies of the world discovered this also, so it is a hot item on the black market. pharmacies around here get robbed quite frequently for it - thank god i am behind bullet-proof glass. my hubby got held up one night at gunpoint several yrs ago for it.

one time a few years ago, some punks broke into a veterinary office in town here looking for oxycontin, why they thought a vet would have it is beyond me - anyway, these 2 "winners" made off with about 25 vials of oxytocin, which in humans induces labor, i would assume it does the same in animals. i wonder if ro taught them how to spell ?

"Special K"- ketamine. Is a club drug. Vets use it for surgical anesthesia- is a hallucinagenic.

A few years ago, I was going into the clinic on an early Sunday morning. Unlocked the doors, went in, and started having a weird feeling like something wasn't right. Started walking around, and saw the refrigerator doors and cabinet doors wide open, along with the back door that is never used. Our clinic cat was freaked, but at least he didn't run out the door. The police caught the guy later that day- he was all f*&$ed up and had crashed his car after attempted breakins everywhere. He was looking for Special K. We keep everything locked up and he wasn't able to find it.

dory's vet and his wife owned the animal clinic here in town - he got busted for K a couple of years ago, lost his license etc. his wife divorced him and runs it on her own now. really a shame because he was a wonderful dr - so caring with the animals and good with owners too. fortunately his wife is the same way - dory is totally enamored of her.

It's an opiate agonist that is very additive. My daughter is on it for chronic back pain from an injury when she was on the MIT varsity basketball team. I worry about her getting addicted, but when she's in a lot of pain, it's the only thing that relieves the pain. I used to worry about her abusing it when she was depressed about a lot of things that were going on in our lives at the time. However, in looking at the RX printouts from CVS (she's on our health insurance, so we get to see that), she doesn't refill it as often as she could.
