MC Davis Trust holds much land south of the Bay, too. He set aside about 53,000+/- acres in the Freeport area for a Preserve, to allow a continuous connection from Eglin to areas far east to the Apalachicola National Forest, for the Black Bear to roam. It is known as the Nokuse (no-GU-see) Plantation. They are in the process of opening a Biophilia Center on Hwy 20, a few miles east of 331. Land has already been cleared for it. The facility will be close to 15,000 sf feet, and will be a research and wildlife center. Nokuse has already been relocating Gopher Tortoises, which others bring.
I recall them having a website at one time, but I don't remember the address.
