Deer Hunting in SoWal

Hi there. Not sure if this thread would be in this location but whatever

I've got a 25 yr old son who wants to either deer hunt (never hunted before but is a good shot) OR purchase deer meat including organs - that has not been mixed with any beef fat.

Just wanted to see what is going on in the area for beginning hunters and also see if there is a supplier of wild game for those who do not hunt but want to purchase meat that hasn't been raised in factory farms and then shipped to grocer's shelves.

Thanks for any help.

I saw a sweet Bambi along 98 today, while coming home from work. The idea of them being slaughtered, just makes me ill!:angry:Please

Much of Point Washington State Forest is a Wildlife Management Area with scheduled hunting seasons per game & gear. I know this because I run up there and do not want to be shot (although I'd rather be shot than wear orange). I saw the ranger out there Saturday and he told me that a bow season would be starting soon, I think the earliest deer season being for archery later this month. I've posted the link to the Pt Washington WMA brochure below:

Are you vegan Diane? If so, then I can appreciate your point of view.

I have been vegan for years close to 100%. (since moving here I have had some seafood on occasion while eating out) I have never hunted, nor do I plan on starting. But I am a realist in that the rest of the world is not going to go without eating meat. Which would you prefer? A meat eater buying meat from a company who raised the animal on a diet that isn't natural (corn raised beef), raised them in cramped quarters, and used them for profit, or someone respecting outdoors and nature works under the guidelines of wildlife management (they can't shoot Bambi) to secure food?

I understand both sides of the argument BELIEVE ME. My son is staying with us and this is the first time in like 5 yrs that any animal product has been in my fridge or been cooked in my home. He currently purchases via mail order his meat through a company who raises it solely grass fed and in a more humane living condition (it is not in a factory farm like so many I saw cramped up in California).

Not trying to start a hunting debate here; just trying to see both sides. Sure I think it would be great if no animal were ever killed. If you eat any grains then you are taking part in the killing of rodents and small animals that shelter in the grain when it is harvested. Why would one animal be more important than any other animal? I would suggest you not eat anything that would harm any animal in any way if you are going to imply that someone who deer hunts is a murderer.

Back to the subject at hand. I have since learned that one can not sell deer meat; I didn't know that. So skip that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you for that info! I too frequent the area walking my dog! Glad to know I need to take precautions!

:floor:Whether you like it or not every American has the right to purchase a hunting license and harvest game. Gidget didn't say she was going to have her son shoot the deer in your backyard, and there is a massive overpopulation of deer in the Southeastern U.S. In case you didn't realize, this thread was posted under the sports and recreation section where it belongs...as for your post, not so much.

But Bambi tastes so good!

And has a great life before he/she becomes dinner - something 99% of the meat on our tables can't say.

We could just do the "humane" thing and let them all do as they feel like. Just don't expect me to stand idly by and watch them overpopulate to the point of starvation. I've seen that before and it is far more sickening than harvesting them.

Look at your teeth, they're designed to eat meat.

We don't all need to think the same....but we do all need to get along.
