I wanted to take a moment to comment on Marshal's adkinson's budget. The DeFuniak Springs Marshal's Office budget has increased. Has anyone taken the time to question the increase? I have not, but I have noticed the difference in law enforcement service provided prior to Marshal Adkinson and the law enforcement service provided today.
I know a large portion of the Marshal's Office budget went to salaries. In the past DeFuniak Springs has hired intelligent, professional, creditable officers. These officers eventually resigned from the Marshal's Office after gaining experience. Officers resigned to seek higher paying positions with other agencies. Marshal Adkinson addressed this issue because he wants to provide the citizens of DeFunaik Springs with the most creditable, educated, professional officers possible. Over the last twenty years this issue was not addressed by prior administrations. This move stopped the revolving door of officers leaving after receiving training and experience at the city's expense.
The second largest portion of the budget increase went to equipement. The motor pool had reached a stage that it required more money to maintain than to replace. I as a citizen insist emergency vehicles be reliable. One never knows when they will need emergency asistance. A huge portion of the equipement budget was used to bring the Marshal's Office into compliance with state rules and regulations. This move will only prevent the City of DeFunaik Springs from paying out money on a law suite in the event someone is injured or killed. Have you not seen the news about the Sheriff's Office in south Florda that failed to dispatch a call and a woman was raped and killed. A professional law enforcement agency is your best protection!
