Dems ready "massive" spending plan for January

Congressional aides said the new program could cost tens of billions of dollars. Democratic House members who had wanted a larger stimulus said they would press for a substantial spending plan this time.

"I hope we don't play around the edges with this and we do what will work. Invest the money now," said Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland), who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus. "We have to create jobs, and we have to create them right away."

Lawmakers are considering myriad ways to accelerate job growth. In interviews, they mentioned road projects that can be counted on to employ people right away, loans to small businesses, incentives for companies that agree to manufacture products in the U.S., and special partnerships in which government tries to avert private sector layoffs by picking up a share of employee wages.

It is unclear how much of the effort would be financed through deficit spending. Rising deficits are becoming an increasing source of worry. This year, the deficit is projected to be $1.58 trillion.

..

Polling shows that the healthcare overhaul is not as important to Americans as an economic recovery that yields jobs. With a midterm election next year, Democrats in control of the White House and Congress can't afford to look out of touch.

Government run amuck. Do they understand that they are spending our money, not theirs? This feels like a desperation play for mid-term votes. My guess is spending billions subsidizing wages will not save them one vote, in fact, I'd bet it'll cost them quite a few. I'd also be willing to bet most of the money will go to special interests, just like the last stimulus.

:bang:

Good gravy. They have lost their minds.

This continued runaway government spending financed by massive borrowing is nothing more than national suicide. Everyone knows this is unsustainable yet no one has the guts to do anything to stop it. They are too worried that they may lose a vote. We will all live to regret our selfishness and arrogance.
The real culprit though is you and I. We continue to demand government provide "free" retirement, health care, protection against loss, education, etc, etc. The problem is nothing is free and we are mortgaging our children's future for this pie in the sky.

It appears so. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.............I want the gov't to support me based upon the manner of which I have become accustomed.

silence when the money goes for war, whining when the money goes for jobs

I am against all deficit spending period unless it it to DEFEND our homeland. That said, at least spedning for war is a constitutional expeniture of the Federal Government, unlike about 95% of the stilulus spending.
