Does Everybody Hate Pres. Obama?

The simple answer to your question is...people.

Thx, Andy A, for clarifying Middlesister's post.

Then if I understand correctly, the corporations are ?us?--maybe in a similar way that the government is ?us?.

(We have met the enemy & it is us?)

I won't deny there's a germ of truth in this.

BUT, we need to realize that sometimes the interests of some of ?us? don't accord with the interests of the rest of ?us?.

Examples:
My health insurance corporation may be more interested in maximizing profits than in my health.
An auto corp. may be more interested in maximizing profits than in making my car safe or non-polluting.
A defense contractor may be more interested in making war than in making peace.
An oil company may be more interested in profits than whether or not it dumps millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Neither corporations nor governments are intrinsically & wholly evil, but we need to be wary of the power of both.

My original point was, that in my opinion, we've let the corporations get too much power [relative to the rest of "us"].

While I understand your point, I find your examples in the extreme but then that is only my opinion as someone who is closer to the capitalist philosophy than the socialist one. And while you are correct about corporations and government, you conveniently forgot the unions which all hold a great deal of power considering they now represent less than a quarter of all workers. It is not their workers who hold their power, it is their leaderships, and they use use that power ruthlessly.

So you are saying that you do understand that corporations, as with unions, can work in ways not in the public/members interest. Your earlier post almost sounded like you didn't see it that way.

I undestand quite well that leaders can influence their subordinates in one way or another. That doesn't change the general premise that I typed in my original post and it would be nice if you would see fit not to try and indicate that it did.

I find your examples in the extreme...

If I retract the defense contractor example, leaving only

(1) My health insurance corporation may be more interested in maximizing profits than in my health.

(2) An auto corp. may be more interested in maximizing profits than in making my car safe or non-polluting.

(3) An oil company may be more interested in profits than whether or not it dumps millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

will you still say that these examples are "extreme"? I wish they were extreme, but unfortunately, they're commonplace.

How 'bout:
(4) tobacco, alcohol & fast food companies may be more interested in profits than in our health?
(5) baby formula companies may be more interested in profits than the health of babies in third world countries where the FDA doesn't police them?

Andy A, these are not extreme examples--they reflect reality!

I'm not saying "eliminate corporations." I consider myself a capitalist--but hopefully not a predatory capitalist.

If you don't think corporations have too much power, do you think they have just the right amount of power, or should we cede even more power to them?

Only speaking for myself, I don't hate him but do dislike him and I don't trust him. I worry about what he is doing to our country and how we will recover from his four years of service. I am not sure that he really has America's best interest at heart. His hope and change are not my hope and change. And YES, I AM A REPUBLICAN! (and proud of it!):D

I was being facetious in my response to ugabuga. AndyA got it. I was trying to make a point about how we can generalize things. There are some people out there who are truly unfortunate. There are a lot of people out there who do not want to take personal responsibility. Let us focus on the truly unfortunate and support lawmakers who are for personal responsibility. What do y'all think?

I'm down with that. ;-) No party affiliation for lawmakers; simply merit and what he/she stands for......brilliant!!!!

People hate Obama even though he doesn't talk about gays and abortion--or guns

People hate Obama even though he doesn't talk about gays and abortion--or guns.

From article cited below:

...it's almost as if, in the absence of outrage over gays and fetuses, the organized right wing is just whipping up outrage over the fact that the president is a Democrat who supports Democratic policies!
