Dolphins

Beach Fanatic
Was walking Elwood at the beach, the sun was just heading down, and out in the distance, I noticed a dorsal fin.
Wow, looks like a dolphin, I thought, then I saw one behind it. Then one in front of it.
Then another and another. I stopped walking and stood there watching fin after fin cresting the waves, there had to be maybe thirty bottlenose dolphins swarming there in the Gulf with the sun setting down. (Apparently sometimes pods, which usually consist of 6-7 dolphins, herd together and can sometimes be as much as 100. Never knew this before I looked it up.)
Just seeing that would have been cool enough, but then I saw a dolphin coming closer and closer; it almost seemed like he saw me. I was right on the wet sand next to the water, and he splashed up out of the water and made a little squeaky dolphin noise, just like Flipper! Elwood was astounded. :)

There may be hurricanes, there may be bugs and stifling heat and scary snakes and whatnot, but seeing all those dolphins wild and free as they were meant to be was truly awesome.

I hear you. When the weather warms, get out there on a kayak and paddle into the middle of the pod. It is a spiritual moment, esp if the water is crystal clear, but watch out for those Hammerheads in your neck of the woods. ;-)

WOW Cil, what a wonderful experience. It must have been magical. I am so glad you got to see it. And this my friends, is one of the reasons why I love the sea!!!!!

I saw more dolphins this past year then we have seen in the seven years we have been coming down there. The one morning I had the same close encounter that you are refering to. The dolphin came right up to the shore. One of the most amazing moments I have experienced. It is truely a blessing to be able to experience this.

This dolphin talk makes me want to be a bit braver in the kayak- I'd probably fall out of the thing if one dolphin was close. Then SJ mentioned hammerhead sharks. Will they bump you in the kayak?

SJ and I demand that you post a pic of Elwood. I have to see him. Please!

We are truly blessed to live in paradise among all this beautiful nature. What a great story Cil. :clap_1:
