Hi, SoWallers...I'm back!!! Have missed all the news and really missed my favorite beach in my favorite month of October. But here to say that all is well on Bainbridge Island, where 95% of residents have a library card and Butter is trying to make a migrating Canadian goose his new playmate. Talk about your summer romances!
The house is now together, except for the library. It is my favorite room in any house, so am taking my time on that. Sure have never had a problem accumulating books. Today it gained two gorgeous red leather armchairs.
Every afternoon, I sit out on the deck with a glass of wine and wait for the rowing clubs and kayakers to slice through a perfect mirror of waterfront that is right below, could easily hit it with a stone. And we have nine acres of beautifully landscaped property to wander, graced by 1,000 ft. of private waterfront. The birding is unbelievable and everything is green and lush. The biggest trees you have ever seen here.
Haven't had time or the inclination to take the 35-min. ferry ride into Seattle, but will this weekend venture there to watch the Pike Street Market fishmongers toss salmon here and there. Have been going to a different lecture or author's reading about every three days or so. And the friendliest people in the world here. The lady at the Ace Hardware offered to come to my house to show me how the new vacuum works!
Will see some of you in December, I hope, if not before. The beaches look glorious in those photos. Nothing will ever replace them in my heart, believe me. Back to CA in a couple of weeks. I fear that I will be counting the days to return here, though. For those who might be interested, the book is going gangbusters!
