I read on local6.com tonight that, of 15 million licensed drivers in Florida, 840,000 have active DUI sanctions on their records. I'm having trouble believing that. Is this possible?

The liquor stores are open on Sunday mornings in FL. Personally, I think that sounds like an outrageous number and does not correspond to my friends' driving records.

The quote was from Frank Penela, a spokesman of the Fla. Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The story is about a bill proposed to make DUI recipients have a pink DUI license plate that police may pull over at any time without cause.

That sounds interesting. Local governments are scrambling to find alternatives to putting these repeat offenders and potential murderers on the streets untethered. Of course, as we all know, repeat DUI'S drive without licenses all the time (if they have been taken away as part of their sentence). One kid from our son's HS went off to college, got a DUI and had a breathe analyzer in his car that he blew into before the car would start. This was after a period of his license being revoked. The gossip was that he could easily get some other friend not as wasted he to blow in the thing. Pretty smart! Just not "smart" enough to learn the lesson and stay in college.

That sounds about right to me. I mean, that's only about 5%. For densly populated states, it's propably even higher.
