Walton Concerns

The Stop Work Order issued to Edgewater for sand doesn't even begin to address the real damage that Shipwatch is going to experience because of the altered terrain of the two joined properties. The retaining wall will drastically change the volume, speed and velocity of storm-water runoff thru Shipwatch's property during a heavy rain storm. Storm-water that previously flowed out in a plane of water will now flow out as collected water thus causing more rutting, gouging and the undermining of Shipwatch's foundation structures.
All buildings and subdivisions must share outlets of waterways to reduce flooding and not be allowed to build retaining walls that alter the direction of storm-water flow.
Further exacerbating the situation is the West side of Edgewater is mostly concrete and asphalt resulting in much more storm-water runoff than that of Shipwatch, that has mostly a silty sand mixture. Because of Edgewater's higher elevation by the street, Edgewater will dump more water onto Shipwatch during a heavy rain storm. Shipwatch is a asset to the area in regards to flooding because of their sandy soil and their retention ponds. Now that pond has been devastated.
Why was there no hydraulic feasibility study done by Edgewater regarding the flow of water from the surrounding properties considering elevations and grades to understand how and where the water flows?
Apparently no consideration was given to Shipwatch when this ill-conceived seawall project was installed. Shipwatch doesn't just receive water from it's own property, it receives water from properties behind them and around them and all of that water has to be managed. Suzanne Harris's idea of managing her storm-water is to use Shipwatch as her ditch.
If she was only trying to shore up her cooling towers you wouldn't need a retaining wall the size of King Kong's wall to do that. It was my understanding she was expanding for a parking lot for SUV's, thus the dark sand underneath the concrete.
Also disturbing is the low esthetic value of this ugly corrugated steel retaining wall that is not conducive to their property at all.
It appears that this whole project had noting but political connections and no impact considerations at all considering Suzanne Harris in on a planning commission and said she has a "friend" at the DEP. Suzanne said this friend informed her that Cecilia Jones was trying to stop the retaining wall. How is building a retaining wall/parking lot for your building without a permit and being on the planning commission not conflict of interest?
Walton County needs to thank Scott Brannon for having the interest of Walton County citizens in mind by bringing this complaint forward because it's clear that Suzanne Harris doesn't have the interest of anyone in mind but Edgewater and herself. She's certainly not community minded considering her disregard for Shipwatch. That's not a quality you want in a Planning Commissioner.
