Looking for an entry-level IT support person to provide remote support of various systems. Ideal candidate would possess associates degree or other certifications from vendors such as Microsoft or Cisco. Need for credentials could be waived with relevant experience, however, excellent customer service skills are a must! This is a full time salary position in Destin with benefits.

Salary is important. I have students with bachelors degrees in computer science. They have jobs, but more money is more money.

Just curious. NACEweb.org says the average starting salary for someone with a bachelors degree in computer science is $59,873.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a company hiring an entry level IT support person at 60k, especially around here. I've been in the support field for many years and can't say I have ever seen that happen. Experience and knowledge of the specific field are so important. A person may know the basics but getting to the root of a problem and resolving it in practice is a skill that can only be learned OTJ.

I think you are right. Salaries in the South are not as high as in the Northeast and West. I had student start at $80K before the dot-com bust, but haven't seen that high of a starting salary since. He was a wizard at C++. My students who work as student aides in the IT department or who do internships are getting good starting salaries because they are getting OTJ training while learning transcendental concepts in class.

The 24-32K salary would be fine for entry level without a degree, but with a degree the going rate in Panama City/Lynn Haven area is $35+. I would think Destin would be a tad bit higher given the cost of living there.

Salaries on the Panhandle are much lower than the national average.

Yet we still stay. Hmm. Must have something to do with that white sandy playground and inviting emerald green waters.............:idontno:

You guys are right on about the average salaries in this area. Keep in mind that this is an entry-level position, so candiates I would expect are as follows...

1) those with associates degree or basic Microsoft/Cisco certification and no relevant OTJ experience
2) those with no degree or certifications and 1-2 years relevant OTJ experience

If you know anyone who may be interested, please let me know.
