Expressions you never hear any more

I knew I drank too much when I was a kid:

Just saw some oldies but goodies (expressions) on a new Nohall surprise appearance thread:

Nohall: So--How's ya mama an' 'em?

ME: look who the cat drug in.

DD: well, as I live and breath...

iwiwt: I have decided SoWal is like "Hotel California"...you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave!

Serendipitous synchronicity...;-)

My daddy has a pile of 'em. I trotted out "pretty good shape for the shape I'm in" on that thread, too. Others:

Don't go away mad; just go away.
Here's your hat, what's your hurry?
Don't run off--we're peaceful for now.
He's as useless as tits on a boar hog. (Usually a reference to one of the cats.)

I use one that I heard from Hop's dad years ago, too: (I could do this) all day and twice on Sunday.

My grandmother was right full of 'em, and I didn't understand a-one:

"They law..." (dragged out into kind of a sigh)
"Lawd hep my time..."
"My land..."
"I'm all stove up this mornin'..." referring to joint/muscle stiffness or, "This_______won't work--it's all stove up."

When I was in high school, I was in a group of older guys who used to make fun of these old mountain expressions. Their favorite was one that you'd hear when there was a strange dog or an ornery child too near the house, spoken quickly with tremendous force: "Gee-awn-ow-heeyah!" (Get on out of here.)

My students hate it when I toss out, "Lord love a duck." I have no idea where it came from...

Lawsy mercy, I could prattle on 'til the cows come home...
