Historic Day At Graceland
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Japan's leader calls it a dream come true.
Of all the places in the world he could've visited, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi says he's thrilled by his trip to Graceland.
His traveling companions -- none other than President Bush and First Lady, Laura Bush.
President Bush says he intended this visit to be a visible symbol of the close ties between the two countries. Today's tour has been smooth, and at times, lighthearted.
Air Force One touched down shortly before 10 o'clock this morning. After a short motorcade ride to Graceland, the President, Prime Minister and First Lady were joined by Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley. We're told the Prime Minister's favorite room is the famous Jungle Room. While the group was gathered there, Mr. Koizumi even gave onlookers a taste of his Elvis impersonation. The Japanese leader put his arm around The King's daughter and began singing, "Hold me close, hold me tight."
After departing Graceland, they visited the National Civil Rights Museum; and from there, they hit The Rendezvous for some Memphis-style ribs. The menu: ribs, chicken and shoulder served on paper plates.
The trip was Bush's farewell gift to Koizumi, who leaves office in September.
