Feeling Blessed and Being Thankful

Darlene is my middle name, not my nickname
Today as I was getting up out of my warm bed, with the air conditioning cooling my house and getting in my shower, a thought crossed my mind. I thought about how lucky and blessed I was, and SO thankful that I had a shower to get into. I thought about all those poor souls in the Superdome, I thought about all those people who quite possibly are still stranded in their homes. I thought about all the people and the families of people who have lost thier lives to Katrina, and I said a prayer for them. I prayed for peace and comfort for all of them, and I thanked GOD for what I had. I thanked him for that shower. It is the little things that I know I take for granted, and then something like this wakes me up. Just the thought of getting a shower in a house that I was still so lucky to have brought tears to my eyes. Who knows how long it will before the Katrina refugees will even get to take a shower. So in the morning, or tonight when you step in that warm shower, say a prayer for all of those people who don't know when they will get one.

Very well said Kathy. I am most grateful that I know where my family is, and I can be in contact via phone,e-mail or in person, if I so desire. I ache and pray for them all. I hope our contribution to the AMRC will give someone somewhere a little comfort. If only for a brief moment in time.

AMEN SISTER!!!!!!!

What would be really cool is if we could organize a community-wide Thanksgiving Dinner and invite any Katrina refugees in the area to be the guests of honor.

Anybody up for that?

I'm up for it as long as they will eat boston butts instead of turkeys. That's our family tradition. The guys stay up thanksgiving eve and drink while standing around the smoker. Much fun!

Maybe we could make some turkey gumbo for the cajuns!

That sounds fun. We were at Gulf Shores one years for Thanksgiving and had shrimp and oysters!
