Feeling Like a Bad Weather Magnet

First, the parents are down in Naples and will not budge when Wilma veers their way. Luckily nothing lost but electricity.

Now the tornado! Our son Alex is at USI in Evansville, Indiana. You know, that place that got hit by a tornado during the night. :bang:

I was awoken from a deep sleep at 11:30 am by Alex's girlfriend, wanting to know if I'd heard from Alex since she hadn't been able to get hold of him. She was worried sick. The kid finally called in about an hour or so, saying that he was safe, that it was a mobile home community that took the brunt of the storm. Alex said it was like a tsunami washed over Evansville, that the air was like one solid fierce wall of water.

I believe him! I was awake at 3 am when the high winds whipped through Indianapolis. (Merman left yesterday for business in the UK, and I can never fall asleep until he checks in with me when he lands--usually in the middle of the night our time--) All our windows were open since the weather has been so mild. Everything in front of windows like vases and doodahs went flying! Then the wind started actually howling and whistling. I felt like I was in the middle of a Dorothy movie. So I can only imagine what it was like in Evansville where the real action was taking place.

SO, everyone, if things happen in THREES, and my family's already done a hurricane and a tornado within the space of a month, what next?   Oh, I know, maybe the New England, where my siblings live, will get hit with a huge Nor'easter...

 Good grief Mermaid, how scary! Glad he's ok.

Oh dear Mermaid! What a scare for you! We often think of tornadoes as Spring events, but they can and DO hit anytime of year. We had one hit the Dallas area around Christmas one year. Glad everyone is safe and sound.

EDIT/UPDATE: I just turned on the TV and they were talking about the tornado! I hadn't seen TV since Sat. morning and didn't know about this horrible event. Whew...Mermaid you were lucky!

Oh, Mermaid, how scary! I talked to a friend in that area, and she said it was really frightening. So, so glad to hear Alex is safe and sound!

So happy that your son is OK!!!!!!!! You take care Mermaid! Did you hear from Merman yet?

GTTBD says HI!

MERMAID, this kind of weather in November is weird!!!! we had 60 mph winds here saturday night!!!! my mom had things blowing off her roof in the middle of the night!!!! I wonder what winter will bring?????? glad everything turned out ok for you :D

Here is the funniest thing--I called my mother to let her know Alex was safe and sound, that the tornado didn't hit the campus. What does she do but call him up straight after.

Grandmother and grandson sat on the phone comparing "weather war stories." :lolabove: I tell ya, in our house, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Merman, lucky dog, is in the north of England in an old estate-converted-to-hotel, in a suite. One with a glorious view of the countryside. I asked what he did to deserve such luxury, and he told me the room he was supposed to go in had a leaky toilet and they had no other place to put him. Bravo for English plumbing!
