Fiscal Conservative-In Name Only

I'm also pretty sure I'd vote against someone who cheated on their spouse. If a politician is amicably divorced due to incompatibility however, it's a non-issue. The whole "family values" thing.. if someone has been married, raised good kids, and stayed faithful, well that's certainly a plus in their favor.
want to back up on that assertion regarding john mccain, cato?

And Republicans will continue with their long history of hipocrisy when it comes to morals. ;-)

I don't know how accurate that accusation is, but I agree the perception is there. That's probably one of the reasons why this current election cycle seems to be anti-incumbent vs. anti-party.

Only a third of U.S. voters think that most members of Congress deserve to be re-elected this year, according to a new national poll. That's the lowest number ever recorded for that question in a CNN survey.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll, released Tuesday, indicates that only 34 percent feel that current federal lawmakers deserve re-election, with 63 percent saying no.

According to the survey, 51 percent feel their member of Congress should be re-elected - also an all-time low in CNN polling - while 44 percent say their representative doesn't deserve to be returned to office in November.

The numbers on both questions are even lower than in 1994, when an anti-incumbent fever helped Republicans win back control of both the House and the Senate from Democrats. The trend line on those questions goes back to 1991, when they were first asked.

"This is not a good year to be an incumbent, regardless of which party you belong to," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Voters seem equally angry at both Republicans and Democrats this year."

More "change" appears to be on the horizon. People are really p*ssed off.

I cannot see how a single payer healthcare system can ever be fiscally responsible. See social security and medicare for examples.

I agree, but I also think a completely deregulated health insurance industry led to our current crisis in healthcare. The push and pull of commerce and the public interest is the means by which the best public policies are produced historically. As long as industry lobbyists (who earn their keep by bringing ever increasing amounts of government money to their clients and promoting legislation that gives their corporate clients an unfair business advantage) continue to dominate Washington, we will never have a fiscally responsible government.

Interesting to learn that Lane Rees was tarred and feathered by the local Republicans for being a RINO. I always thought it was because he was from South Walton.

It wasn't geography as much as people w/ big bucks wanting someone they could buy off.

Whole thing was completely disgraceful good ol' boy tactics and lies.

absolutely true story.

Having Lane on the Board of CC was great because he truly represented the people and he went a long way in helping bring Walton County govt structure and staffing up to par. Up until Lane was on the Board, I was in disbelief regarding our county government. He brought a level of professionalism to the county that was much needed. I could care less which political party he claimed - it really made no difference whatsoever.

This is why it's accurate. You say everyone except Dems thinks Clinton is a "lyin', cheatin', dirty old man" (your words) yet for POTUS in 1996 the Repubs ran Bob Dole and in 2008 they ran John McCain. How are either one these guys any better when it comes to"lyin and cheatin"? Remember also in the last Republican primary the only candidate who hadn't had mulitple wives was the Mormon!
