Hot off the press...

This attached draft was prepared at the last meeting of the NFTCA, prioritizing road construction throughout NW FL. A few key items for this area, in the 1-5 year plan are map ID #s 24, 33 and 35, connecting FT Walton to Niceville, Niceville to Freeport via a new 4-lane, which will likely lead to Eglin AFB not renewing the lease of the current airport (VPS). Map ID #35 calls for 4-laning Hwy 331 from I-10 to the south end of the bridge crossing the Choctawhatchee Bay (Bridges to be included in four-laning).

Also worthy of noting for our area are map ID #s 38 and 40, in the 10-20 yr plan, which are two roads which will connect 30A to the new PCB Airport, and Freeport to the new PCB Airport, both are "limited access" (translation is probably toll road) 4-lanes.

If you have not seen the maps before, go to the link above and click on "Master Plan Map." It is too large to attach. The map for our area is on p4 of 5.

Thanks for the link SJ, looks like they are moving faster than I expected on some parts of the Master Plan.

My co-worker lives in Navarre and is not happy to see that a new 4 lane highway will now be behind her house that currently abuts the Eglin Reservation.

Yes - thanks for posting - those are some serious bones (the roads) and their will be a lot of meat (development) put on them.

For some of the proposed roads that is true. But that Milton to Freeport connector, that is within the 5 year plan, runs mainly thru Eglin property. No development will go there.

No, but it will help the military find reasonably priced homes in other towns, with quick access to the Base at Eglin. I know of a few young pilots who have already bought in Hammock Bay. I think we will see more military families living in Freeport down the road. ;-)

Thanks SJ. I really appreciate the information -- good stuff!
