A bill that prohibits the automatic payroll deduction of union dues from government workers' pay cleared a House committee Thursday and critics called the measure an attempt at union-busting.

..

State Rep. Chris Dorworth, who is sponsoring the bill, said he just wants to get government out of the business of collecting union dues.

He said some union members even told him they liked the bill, though he didn't name them. Florida's business lobby, including the Chamber of Commerce, supports the bill.

"It's absolutely not a union-busting bill," Dorworth, a Lake Mary Republican, said after the hearing.

"All it says is, if you want to collect dues, do it directly," he added. "And if you want to spend dues on something, make sure your members know what that is."

This bill seems pretty reasonable to me. Why should the state pick up the tab for collecting dues for private non-profits? I think all paycheck deductions should come to an end, including tax deductions. Payroll deductions are a trick government plays that masks how much money you pay into something. (I'm not surprised the unions managed to lobby themselves into this system, they're just as dishonest as the government.) This bill a great first step in removing this veil from taxpayer's eyes.

Oh lord, not the great and powerful Florida Teachers Union.

Honestly as far as unions go it's probably the most pathetic do nothing organizations in the state. Back in the day when they formed they had to agree to a no strike deal to even get a union. That in itself is beyond dumb, why would you agree to not do the one thing that is your last resort for bargaining?

Yeah, when they go after the Unions er lobby groups like the Chamber of Commerce, Florida Fire Chiefs, The Florida Association of Sheriffs, the Association of City and County Governments, the Associated Industries and the like then the veil will truly fall from the public face. Oh those are to name a few and the only difference between them and us the dues I pay come from my pocket, the dues they pay come from oh my pocket also.

That's all true, but those organizations fall in line with the current powers that be:

Reduced worker rights
Reduced pay
Reduced benefits
