Freedom rally - april 17th

New posts
It's hitting the news, now, that this was not political in nature. It was a robber / purse snatching. They had walked into a dark area of the quarter and were attacked by several youths who knocked them down and stomped her leg breaking it in five places. The guy had his face beaten and his jaw broken.

Jindal's office has made a statement that while the woman works for him it was not a political incident.

I'm sure that with time the NOPD will clarify if this is politically motivated or not.

My issue is with the Republican Governor's office posting (see below) the probability that it WAS politically motivated based on hearsay. This kind of posting by a Government office does nothing but stir the pot regardless of whether it is a Republican OR Democrat Office. IMO, the Press Secretary should be canned.

"The governor?s office said Monday that Allee Bautsch suffered a broken leg and her boyfriend suffered a concussion and fractured nose and jaw in the alleged incident. (KSLA)

A Republican activist and her boyfriend were savagely beaten in New Orleans on Friday for wearing Sarah Palin pins.
Free Republic reported:

Allee Bautsch, chief campaign fundraiser for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and her boyfriend Joe Brown, were savagely beaten Friday night in New Orleans after leaving a Republican party fundraising dinner by a group of thugs who reportedly targeted the couple because they were wearing Sarah Palin pins.

Bautch?s leg was broken and Brown incurred a broken jaw and nose as well as a concussion.

The Hayride reports that a source who visited Bautsch at the hospital the day after the attack says they were told the couple was attacked for wearing Palin buttons:

Two people at the Brennan?s event have now confirmed that the protest had largely broken up by the time it ended, but we also understand from someone who visited Allee Bautsch in the hospital Saturday morning that she and Brown were followed and attacked expressly because they had Palin pins on (she heard one of the attackers say ?Let?s get them, they have Palin pins on? ? so the attack WAS politically motivated as its victims understood it. It was not a mugging, it was not an argument gone wrong and it was not a bar fight.

The story of a Republican and her boyfriend being viciously attacked for wearing Palin buttons has yet to make national headlines, unlike say, unfounded rumors of nasty words being said by Tea Party protesters.

Related? Anarchists took to the streets in New Orleans on Friday to protest the SRLC, marching to the Hilton Hotel, where a banner was hanging from the roof which said ?We won?t pay for their crisis. Become the crisis!? ?- The march then headed to Brennan?s Restaurant, where a $10,000 a plate SRLC dinner was in progress.

UPDATE: They are still investigating the violent attack?

Friday night, the Governor?s campaign fundraiser, Allee Bautsch, and her boyfriend were involved in an altercation in the French Quarter with a group of people.

While there were protestors around at that time, we are not aware of any evidence that the individuals involved in the altercation were protestors.

Allee?s leg was badly broken in the incident, she has had surgery, and she is facing a recovery time of two to three months. Her boyfriend had a concussion, and also a fractured nose and jaw. They are both expected to fully recover.

NOPD is investigating the incident and we are refraining from further comment to allow them to fully investigate and ensure justice is done. Our prayers are with Allee. She is a strong person and we are sure she will make a speedy recovery.

Thanks,

Kyle Plotkin
Office of Governor Jindal
Press Secretary"

I was thinking the same thing. If this we're a liberal protest and a far right winger was purposely trying to subvert their cause they wouldn't be able to control themselves and resort to violence.

Interesting how the MSM didn't report the attack that the occured to the Palin supporter in LA. They broke her leg, left her and her boyfriend bloody. The double standard is pathetic.

Tea Party rallies are probably the most peaceful ever. All evidence points to the opposite of what the left is claiming. The best sign I saw read "it doesn't matter what this sign reads, we will still be labeled racists". So true, so very true.

So much from the very bogus "Gateway Pundit" :floor: Next time, get better resources before you post falsehoods. And you, and other Andy and Ms. 30A Shopper have a great picnic lunch at your little rally!
Keep us all posted! We can't wait!

I'm curious. What about people whose life doesn't totally suck? Is there a place in the Tea Party for them? It wouldn't seem to be the case.

If the tea partiers were really about the five cornerstones cites here then I could very well jump on board. However, I see this movement as being more of an anti-Obama movement made up of some of the worst elements of the Republican party.

IMHO, if the tea party was legit- they would just as vocal against George W and the others who have done what seems to be irrepairable damage to the Republican party (and the country). But that's not what I see or hear.

I'm going to play devil's advocate.

At this point in the game the whole thing about the Crashtheteaparty.org group has become so widely reported that even though a few are obviously showing up I don't think that they are given much, if any, credence by anybody because how do you know if they are real or not? They were so vocal in their plans that they canceled out the result that they were shooting for. I think the perceived real tea partiers handled it well by calling them for what they were with "impostor" signs. The best way they could have handled it.

Now...let's assume that the sign wielders in your post are real...namely the Obama Bin Laden sign holder. It's not racist or terribly offensive. Do you risk pissing of the mass of people by removing somebody because of the sign? I wouldn't. That's a potential vote. It may be a batsheet crazy vote, but it's a vote. Besides, by doing that you run the risk of losing control of the rally to the crowd, and then it's game over.

BTW...the only racists signs I see are the ones that say "I'm a rich white racist..." and "Average Racist Right Wing Tea Bagger Family". Are they racist? Not even close. I think anybody with any sense would see those as crashers who didn't quite get the concept for what kind of signs they were supposed to bring to the party.

Just my two cents...

Do you seriously think that if a group of people were going to covertly infiltrate tea parties, they would advertise it on a web site, wear tea shirts they are selling that say crashtheteaparty.org, and gain recognition via the MSM? First of all, I don't think many people would have taken the time to do such. If you have a paying job in this economy- highly unlikely. There weren't anywhere near the amount of people at the Boston Rally as they reported. I have pictures of the open field and there were maybe a 1000 people, not the thousands the MSM reported. How do we not know that it wasn't a ploy by the organizers of these events so that when someone sees these inflammatory signs, they can blame it on flaming liberals trying to discredit them? And, if the organizers were going to call out these people, as they said they would, then I find it contemptible that they missed that gargantuan Obama bin Laden sign. As far as Palin is concerned, I think even if she had the power to quietly have these people removed, that her narcissism would get in the way of that action. Y'all may also think that these pictures were taken by a flaming liberal, but quite the contrary. This person went to see Palin because she admires her, doesn't mean I agree, nonetheless,,,, we are still maintain a friendship. Maybe if more people took our stance of mutual respect, the tea parties would be more productive.

I certainly can't imagine taking time out on what might be the most beautiful day of the year to hang with the baggers.

not when there's Kelsey at Hibiscus...Gulf Place Earth Day...Topsail, Farmers Market at Seaside...and top it all off with the Jazz Festival at Pier Park...the only tea I want is Earl Grey...sipping it beside the most beautiful water on the planet, and appreciating Governor Crist for saying no to that bad education bill. Yes, life is good.

I would spend $8.00 on a bar of herbal soap before I drank the free tea at the bagger bash.:floor: ;-)

I cannot understand why the Tea Party does not seem to care in the least about reforming the runaway financial system that caused this recession. It's nowhere in their "Contract", they never talk about it - do they really think it's okay? Do they really think that this entire meltdown was caused by poor people buying houses they couldn't afford after the wonderful, faultless banks were forced to lend them money by Bill Clinton?

Where are the signs saying "Blankfein got a $20M bonus and all I got was this lousy pink slip", "I want my bailout", and "Main Street, not Wall Street"?

How about this Thomas Jefferson quote:

"I sincerely believe... that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies."

Why is there no outrage about this subject?

Maybe because Fox owns the WSJ and they aren't about to piss off their bread and butter?

A conservative voice of reason

Kathleen Parker - What Americans can do to discourage future McVeighs

The challenge for all, but especially the media, is to find a balance between vigilance and restraint. How do we expose the unhinged without emboldening them with attention? Inevitably, the lone operator hears his own name summoned from the crowd.

The only palatable answer is what conservatives say they love best: self-control and personal responsibility. When someone spews obscenities, shout them down. When politicians and pundits use inflammatory language, condemn them.

When you choose to remain silent, consider yourself complicit in whatever transpires.

Ms. Parker, a conservative writer for the Washington Post and others, was just awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary...perhaps her reasonable approach will take hold.
