Beach Comber
Hi, y'all. I'm Kimmy.
I'm from Atlanta, but have lived in the DC area for 14 years.
My family (from Andalusia, AL) has been coming to SoWal for generations, and it's been my favorite place on the planet for as long as I can remember. I don't often take "vacations" anywhere else but there, because nowhere else ever compares to the beauty, tranquility, and overall R&R that SoWal offers.
Lucky for me, my Yankee husband fell in love with the area when I first brought him down to Seagrove 11 years ago, and it instantly became our Special Place. We got married about 100 ft off of Eastern Lake (six years ago tomorrow!), and hope to live down there someday, hopefully sooner than later. Until then, we faithfully come down every May, and it is our happiest time of the year.
Since we care about SoWal as much as (if not more than) our own backyard, we have been scouring the web for any and all developments regarding the Oil Spill. We are scheduled to get down there for our longest vacation yet a week from today, and are fully prepared to work our fannies off with recovery efforts in any way we can, if necessary. Meanwhile, y'all are in our constant thoughts and prayers.
Unfortunately, I suffer from Chronic Daily Migraines, and am extremely sensitive to smell, so my only fear with regard to our trip is that an fuel-like odor moves in, which would pretty much ensure constant pain for me. It is the ONLY thing that would keep us away. I am an optimist, though, and am envisioning beautiful weather, clear water, and pleasant-smelling breezes. (And typing with fingers crossed.) As far as I have seen, it doesn't seem as if odor has become an issue, which is a relief, and adds to my hopefulness.
Anyway, I figured that, since I lurk so often, I might as well introduce myself. I'm so grateful for this online community of yours, and appreciate you all sharing your experiences here.
Sincerely,
Kimmy
