Gator in Stallworth Lake

New posts

I was talking to a very nice woman today who said they removed a 3 1/2 foot alligator from Stallworth Lake about a week ago. Anybody heard anything about this?

I saw an alligator about that size in Western Lake 3 weeks ago. That's far from Stallworth, but I thought it was noteworthy. I look for gators every time I pass any of the coastal lakes.

There are some gators in the lakes. There used to be a lot more. Generally when one starts to get of any size it is removed or "disappears", in favor of pets.

There were always gators in Eastern Lake when we lived there, small and usually never bothering anyone. There was an aggressive gator at one point and he was replaced elsewhere.

I heard sometime back that many gators are relocated to the lake behind the Sowal Sherrif sub-station. Is it true a large one traveled back down 98 and 30A to the lake again?

Cowboy and I were frolicking in Stallworth last month...the Upper Elementary class at Montessori saw one in the bay at Eden during lunch last week....they live here...it's all good...we just need to have awareness and respect them.

There was a previous thread that seemed to say the gators were given to the trapper to do as he wished with them.

To the best of my knowledge they aren't put there, but SoWal rule of thumb: dig a hole, let it fill with fresh water, and poof! Alligators appear.

There used to be one in there called Tripod, as he only had three legs.

There also used to be one under the TDC's office. Not sure what ever transpired there. :idontno:

I was just wondering what happened to that gator, since we haven't seen it in a while. My boys play over there, they have a favorite tree that hangs over the water and of course there is usually a dog or two hanging out with them.....no more!
