I just watched NBC and the moment of silence.
My friend from Jersey called and we shared the moment. He is a tug boat captain in the NY harbor and was working that day. His tug took survivors to safety, and he was telling me about the look of shock and disbelief on their faces. Peter observed first hand the devestation. His job was to take survivors home and the next day his tug helped transport debris from the site. His mother passed away 9/10 and he was not able to leave the job for several days. His sorrow is two fold.

i haven't watched anything about it - watching it all the first time was enough for me; i'm just thinking about it in my own way. i'm sorry for your friend's loss tho ....

:( How terrible for him! Will keep him in prayers.

This is indeed a good time to remember those who sacrifice for others, those who innocently died while just doing their jobs or going through their day, and those who lost someone dear to them. Thanks for bringing these thoughts to this board, Allifunn.

Today I could not help but think of the people *all over the world* who have suffered and died at the hands of terrorists.
It is discouraging to think that so many believe in violence as a way to effect change.
We simply have to try to be nicer to each other. Why is it so hard?

Sounds to me like Peter is another hero that came to life that fateful day, I am sure you are so proud to call him your friend.....God bless him:wub:

He is very humble about it and says he was doing his job...and I have said to him "the fire fighters and the police men who helped were just doing their jobs, but it became so much more than that" and I also have told him that there were thousands of people accross the country that would have given anything to have been able to help in any way possible and would have loved to have been able to help as much as he did!
He & I cried together this morning! It was a tradgey that we will never forget!

Thanks to Peter for helping, even in his time of loss. so many people sacrificed themselves for others during this time - they need to be remembered too...
I'll tell him you said so, he will be honored!

Your friend sounds like a real hero  :clap_1:
