From what I've read, the Governor doesn't see this as a high priority...he could do a good thing for all Floridians if he prevented this meddling with our right to vote....http://www2.tbo.com/news/opinion/2011/may/10/MEOPINO1-chilling-democracy-ar-206093/
Now, before a partisan fight unfolds, let's be real: We will all suffer if Gov. Rick Scott signs this legislation into law. House Bill 1355 changes voter registration rules and the early voting period, and it is one of the most restrictive, unnecessary and undemocratic pieces of legislation in our state's history.
Not only does this legislation eliminate some of the most successful and beneficial components of our election system like early voting and Election Day change of address, but also it goes after third-party groups — like Rock the Vote, where I served as deputy field director during the 2010 midterm elections and helped organize Florida's young voters — that work to promote civic engagement and voter participation.
Equally troubling, this bill cuts our early voting period from 14 days to eight.
Historically, Florida has had issues with long lines and huge turnout for early voting dates because it is convenient and effective. So why are we cutting back on this?
Unfortunately, this only scratches the surface of this bad legislation. It's riddled with other extraneous tactics that prevent voting, period — not voter fraud.

The Republican leadership claimed the election changes, which will also make it more difficult for college students to register, were necessary to curtail voter fraud.
It's an imaginary threat. Sometimes forms with obviously fake names, such as Mickey Mouse, have been turned in to election supervisors, but they are immediately rejected. This has not been a serious problem.
Secretary of State Kurt Browning's office reports that in the last three years 31 cases of alleged voter fraud were referred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for investigation. Only three resulted in arrests.
