OK- so I know there have been threads on this place before- but I just want to make sure that anyone who hasn't been there needs to go!

I have now been there twice and the service is impeccable- and the food is AMAZING! Our waitress was fabulous- Jeanie? Is that her name?

Hanger Steak- so tender, soooo good.

I had lunch there a few weeks ago (2nd time) Love it!!!!!! The grouper sandwich with the pecans on it is to die for.:D :D

I had a very disappointing dining experience @ Gravel Road yesterday. After all of the rave reviews on SOWAL I thought it was time to venture outside the box. The restaurant was extremely warm, A/C was either off or not working, the service was practically non-existent, the food was OK but the attitude of the server was so bad that it made for a very unpleasant lunch. Details: arrived @ 2:00 p.m. Nearly empty restaurant, verified that they were still serving lunch, told 'yes'. Seated at a tiny little table, even though many larger tables were available. (We were a party of 2.) Ordered a glass of wine. Took forever to get water and the glass of wine...there were only 4 other customers in the restaurant, 2 of which arrived after us. Finally, ordered lunch - the grouper sandwich - that everyone raves about. I asked if they could possibly serve the tartar sauce on the side. I was told that they didn't do special orders but that she would check. Tartar sauce is a condiment - not a special order....they did agree to accomodate this request. And, I did overhear when the server asked, that the person she asked, said, Of course! Something so simple became an awkward situation. Then when we finally got the check for our lunch, and I handed the server my credit card, we were told that their computer is not working. So, they could take cash or a check and that they could accept credit cards, but that they would have to write your card number and information down on their ticket and keep this to process the bill. Everyone knows that Red Bar & 331 are 'cash or check only'....but this tidbit of information could have been stated at the beginning not when presenting the bill. Possibly it was just an off day for this server but what should have been an enjoyable lunch with a friend became a test of endurance. The grouper sandwich was OK but with all that happened this is a restaurant that I will not be rushing back to anytime soon.

I have dined a few times at Gravel Road and found everything wonderful. I love the quiet hidden atomosphere. It could have been one of those days when everything was just a pinch off. That happens more so at the beach then I've seen in Big Cities...but who knows.:idontno: I do hope you will go back and try GR again. Talk with the owner. Being an owner myself I would much rather here it straight from you and take care of it....then through the grapevine. I do agree that you need to be told up front that the card machine is down and that you could pay by check or cash. Then you are given the opportunity to dine or not.

Good Luck Sbremer on your next dining experience. Let us here about it!!!

I give every place a second chance and would have bitten off my nose to spite my face if I had not done so.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience. The times we've been there, the food has always been good, and they've cheerfully made menu tweaks, but there was something, not bad, but a little off about the service.

It's hard to keep good waitstaff in the area, so I do tend to cut them a little slack in that regard.
