Here is an update of what is happening at Habitat. We have a need for volunteers and some heavy equipment for recycling a demolished building, so please read through the note if you can help in either way. Thanks, everyone, for your support.

We have a lot of exciting projects underway and I wanted to provide and update and some advance notice on future work. Sorry for the length of the email.

Woman Build: The Woman Build program is going very well and the crews have almost totally finished painting and caulking the inside of the house. There will be a class on installing cabinets given by General Contractor Dave Thomas on May 16th. After that the cabinets will be hung by the Woman Build volunteers. If you would like to volunteer for the Woman Build please contact Nellie Debruyn or Barb Landwehr at the email addresses above.

House #20

March 8 - 13. We will be taking delivery on house #20 on Monday March 8th and with the help of a great team of students from UPITT we will be working to get the house up and dried in. Depending on the progress by the 12th we will likely also have a volunteers work day on the 13th. For those of you around during the week, you are welcome to join the students on any of the work days. Directions to #20 are attached.

April 3,10 and 17. Likely days for hanging sheetrock on #20 and beginning of mudding. Please out that in your calendar.

House #19

Final Workdays. After the Woman Build finishes the interior of the house we will need several workdays to get the house read for turnover.

March 20, 8AM - We will be working on the brush cutting and final grading to the property and completing the driveway. If you have a wheelbarrow please bring it.

March 27 8AM - Final finish up workday.

Building demolition and Recycling at Rosemary Beach

April 24, 8 AM (tentative) Habitat has been offered all of the material that can be recycled from the Rosemary Beach sales office trailer complex on 30A. There is thousands of dollars worth of recyclable material like pressure treated 8x8s; 2 x 10s, doors, windows and corrugated metal. Matt Parker, Habitat's President is still working on the details but we are hoping to have the first major recycling effort in Walton County to recover building material that would normally go to the landfill. We will need at least 50 volunteers to assist. We are hoping to have professional roofers, electricians and equipment operators to help with the process.

Here are the specific needs in addition to volunteers. If you know anyone please help us put the team together and have them email (wrennicke@cox.net)or contact me (850 598 9449):

1. Backhoe - We need a backhoe to take out the shrubs in front of the office trailers so they can be moved. Also we need the boom from the backhoe to take down the 8x8s that make up the overhead of the walkway. The backhoe work could be done the week of April 19th to cut down on activity on the mega volunteer day.

2. Flatbed truck, flatbed or open trailers - we will be generating a great volume of material in a very short period. We will need trucks and trailers to take the material from Rosemary Beach to the Restore on 331.

ReStore:

With the help of many volunteers who are organizing the inventory at the ReStore each week, we have greatly increased the sales. Have the new and used material in an easy to access location contributed to the Restore's record sales month of close to $19,000. In addition to being a major contributor to the funds to build new homes, hundreds of items were made available to Walton County residents who might not have been able to afford them at normal retail prices. Tricia Rennicke (trennicke@cox.net) and Shawne Shiflett (880-6018) are organizing the workdays so please contact them if you have time to help Wednesdays to Saturdays.

ReStore Material to Sell:

Here are some of this months featured items from the ReStore:

1. New Pella Windows and Doors
2. Pella full wall panels with picture windows and casement windows
3. Over 200 interior and exterior doors and panels
4. New bathtubs (still in the box)
5. Over 100 new and used screens of all sizes.

(This note was written by Bill Rennicke to update our volunteers)
