Another reason to celebrate for New Orleans is that their beloved mayor of the "Chocolate City" is having his inaugeration (sp?) today. Those crazy people. I guess that his comment about rebuilding the Chocolate City won it for him. :idontno: I know it was not due to his common sense.

I voted for him Joe. Better than his opponent, trust me. I didn't vote for either in the primary. I'm not getting into politics, lord help us all, but Nagin was the first Mayor worth a darn NOLA has had since the 1960s. He is no slick politico and pandered (poorly) to black voters...I can get over that.

Skunk, I am by no means suggesting that your Mayor is worse than some of our Commissioners. I think all politicians make screwed up choices at least some of the time. ;-)

Chocolate City -- :floor:

ya'll should be around our peyton place. one of the local real estate company owners "allegedly" accosted 4 high schoolers out to eat for prom. he was drunk, said something nasty to one of the girls, a fight ensued with the boys escorting the girls, the real estate dude flashed a gun, then kicked one of the boys in the groin. now he is up on 5 felonies and 2 misdemeanor charges and in peril of losing his real estate license. while he was out to eat with his wife and mother no less.

 Nagin and our Mayor Willie Herenton are like two peas in a pod. I see alot of similarities, arrogance, for one, comes to mind! Herenton and his entourage have run this city in the ground. This city is so far in debt and it is because of who is running things in all the top offices and the mismanagement of funds. This city is 70% black. When a black man here tries to get enough signatures himself to have our mayor recalled, then that is a shock. Unfortunately, he came up short. Our mayor will have to be 6 feet under before people are rid of him! All the government ever talks about is raising property taxes, raising the gas prices we have to pay for the gas use on our utilities, etc. to make up for their screw ups. They sit in their meetings day after day thinking of ways to make the taxpayers pay more and more. And who suffers for it, us! I see Willie Herenton in Ray Nagin. Enough said! BTW, so far the only one seeing tropical depressions is the Pacific coast. Maybe that area will be picked on for a change.

I don't know the first thing about Herenton, but I do know a heckuvalot about Nagin. I know you probably think Nagin is a major jacka** because he only makes the news when he says something he shouldn't have. Jeez, I hate to get into the politics, but let me promise you, Nagin did many, many GOOD things here before Katrina. He was a political newbie loved by all except the most old-school politico types. Then came K and Rita;I imagine the worst natural disaster in our country's history can make anybody look bad. History will tell us what the final verdict is regarding Nagin. For now he is the mayor of NOLA, no sense in gnashing teeth. I encourage all folks on the Gulf to take his inauguration day admonition and "get off your rumps" if you want good things to happen after last year! :clap_1:
