ya'll should be around our peyton place. one of the local real estate company owners "allegedly" accosted 4 high schoolers out to eat for prom. he was drunk, said something nasty to one of the girls, a fight ensued with the boys escorting the girls, the real estate dude flashed a gun, then kicked one of the boys in the groin. now he is up on 5 felonies and 2 misdemeanor charges and in peril of losing his real estate license. while he was out to eat with his wife and mother no less.

 OH GOD!!! Lose his real estate license!! The inhumanity of it all!!!

We have heard a few things that Nagin said that I would not be proud of. He referred to New Orleans as the Chocolate City. I have yet to hear anything good Herenton has done. We actually thought about vacationing in South Louisiana last year and taking a few days to visit New Orleans until Katrina. I have always wanted to go on the Haunted Walking Tour, especially the graveyard tour. New Orleans and the Corp of Engineers surely knew eventually that a major hurricane would flood the place. It is so far below sea level. And apparently the levees couldn't even hold up to the category 3 storm like they reportedly should of been able to. Did you see Katrina, the Lost Episode on the Weather Channel tonight? It was filmed 4 months before Katrina, It is hurricane week through the 10th on there.

The top officials are way overpaid here. They are making it where no one can afford to live here anymore. Good lord, I live in NOLA and lived the storm. Some on down, I will give you the ghost and cemetery tour for free, and even take you to Marie Laveau's REAL tomb, not the bogus one they take you to in the 'safe' cemetery

Did your home have much damage? So the ghost tour and cemetery tour is not worth the money they charge? You referenced the "safe" cemetery. Maybe someday we will get back to Louisiana. We took a good airboat ride in Loreauville, Louisiana through Lake Fausse Point. Can you recommend a airboat ride that is convenient to New Orleans if we get back that way? I am sure we will, just think it is too soon now as I am sure there is still plenty of clean up to be done there in some areas. Wondering if the biting fly problem in the panhandle could be a result of the hurricanes last year? We had never experienced them before last year and we went right after Katrina. This Marie Laveau, according to Wikipedia, she is buried in the Saint Louis Cemetery #1 in New Orleans in the Glapion Family crypt. Is this correct? Sounds creepy!

No, I guess those tours are worth it, but remember they are putting on a show too, not just walking around pointing stuff out. They sure draw huge crowds. Wikepedia is right, she is in St Louis #1 (at least according to a local historian who researches this sort of stuff). There are some other folks of note there including Plessy of Plessy vs Ferguson and P.B.S. Pinchback, our first black Governor (reconstruction!). Sometimes the tour groups will take people to the 'reputed' tomb of Marie Laveau because it is in a safer cemetery. St Louis # 1 is literally next door to a huge public housing project, and that is all I am going to say about that. Our living quarters made it through the storm fine, thanks for asking. We sold a house in June 2005 that was haunted. It was built in the 1870s, located in uptown NOLA. We used to hear footsteps on the staircase when we were sitting watching TV at home alone;one day I was home alone downstairs and heard what sounded like somebody literally running up and down the hallway upstairs and when I went up there my skin got this pins and needles feeling but I didn't see anything;my brother in law was visiting and claims to have seen a female apparition in his bedroom one night! It was weird but we figured they were friendly ghosts

That sounds so cool! The hair would have been standing on the back of my neck and my arms also. The housing projects are all over the place around here. One right behind my work. We heard five loud pops one afternoon while at work and there are a bunch of school students that walk home behind our complex. Someone had been shot back there, driveby shooting and was sitting on the ground bleeding from their leg. Typical everyday Memphis. Nothing new here. Would have loved to see that house. Too bad it wasn't a part of a haunted tour and on a historic registry.

30A, we usually spend the night in NOLA on the way to FLA., went two weeks before Katrina last year and stayed in Gulfport instead. I miss NOLA! Any suggestions if we decide to stay there this year? ARE there places to stay? I'm gonna have a whole carload with me, so it needs to be economical...Haven't checked any places yet, just thought of it while reading this thread.

Destindreamin, how long a drive is it for you to the panhandle? it takes us 8 1/2 to 9 hours from Memphis. We pretty much drove nonstop last year except for stopping for gas and lunch.

Well, lady, it depends on if I'm driving or mr. dd. If I am, it's 11 hours, if it's mr. dd, it's 12! ;-) Like I said, we usually spend the night in NOLA, but since I've got such a carload this time, we may try to find somewhere more affordable--gotta save $$ for alcohol and food at the beach! We usually always drive straight home--all 11 hours in one day. We stop on the way there because we usually leave in the afternoon after working in the morning.
