With the nation’s attention diverted by the drama over the debt ceiling, Republicans in the House of Representatives are loading up an appropriations bill with 39 ways — and counting — to significantly curtail environmental regulation. One would prevent the Bureau of Land Management from designating new wilderness areas for preservation. Another would severely restrict the Department of Interior’s ability to police mountaintop-removal mining. And then there is the call to allow new uranium prospecting near Grand Canyon National Park.

They believe the Nation is better off when corporations self regulate.

ugh.

A worker at the Blakely, GA plant had reported early in the investigation that the facility was "littered" with rats! ugh ugh. I look at my peanut butter a lot closer now!!

I wonder why anyone would ever think that a corporation will do the right thing if the right thing means less profit? Is it Television advertising that created this illusion? Or that we want to believe the company we work for has morality? I worked for a corporation for 23 years and did not figure it out until after about 15 years. It took me a while to realize that my company would cheat anyone and everyone all in the name of profit. They fudge numbers. They fudge on regulation. They fudge on labor. They turn our environment to fudge. It is very hard not to get caught up in a false sense of ownership in your company. My grandfather's wisdom regarding investing back into the company you work for is not always good advice. I found out the hard way.

I am dumbfounded by corporate wellfare, corporate loopholes and corporate bailouts. The larger the corporation the less the business becomes about people. The larger the corporation the less choice consumers have. The larger the corporation the more political power at their control. Our politicians have hands in the corporate pockets. Maybe we should closely inspect our political candidates to see which side they come down on before we vote regardless of which party affilliation.
