We have a little Shih Tzu (Jasper) and he's quite the barker. We figured
out several things to let the pupster know that incessant barking is not acceptable.
The best path for us is to keep Jasper busy. Since dogs love chewing we provide him with chew hooves, pig ears, Lambeez, Nylabones, dental rope, and Hill's Canine T/D. It is working very well. The Lambeez is for
little dogs and I think is fairly new. Hills Canine T/D is a nutritional food but we give it as a treat because it is a dental aid besides we feed him an all natural diet. The T/D pieces are about the size of a marshmallow and our little pup loves them and the size is no problem.

Jasper doesn't like the Kong unless it has cheese in it or pieces of hot dog. Try it, might work.
We 'wear him out' playing chase the ball, squirrel, fox tail, whatever. It doesn't take much - about 15/20 minutes to get him tuckered out. We had an English Springer Spaniel before the Shih Tzu and believe me you cannot wear out a Springer! Phew!
We got some chain link at Lowe's and put it in one of those Crown Royal pouches. What does this have to do with a barking dog? Learned it from Bark Buster's. When the dog barks or misbehaves, you throw the pouch down and growl. The sound of the chain link on the floor sounds like dogs snapping to the pup's ear. It works miracles. We had to stitch around the chain link bundle so it would not fly out of the pouch. The chain link pouch is not a toy and you musn't let pup play with it. It takes a little time but we decided we would not live with a tyrant beastie. Good luck to you and your little sweetie.
