Beach Comber
I know I have mentioned this before but just because you are at the beach and everything is beautiful doesn't mean we don't have criminals. Please lock your cars. Don't leave your house open. Last, don't leave your valuables in your cars..ie. wallets, laptops, i-pods, etc.. Someone has been helping themselves because we are making it real easy... PLEASE LOCK YOUR STUFF UP!

Thank you. I am done now. :bang:

Thank you for this important reminder, wccop. Being from the big city, I am a big time locker, but it amazes me to read the neighborhood crime reports and see all the theft from cars. I imagine with the economy situation that crime will be rising everywhere, even in paradise.

You can't remind people enough! It's like not locking up your bike when you go to the beach, store or restaurant. It may take a minute or two to get out the lock, open it up and then lock it, but your bike will be there when you are ready to leave.

This is very true. I left windows down in my truck and ran out in the water in front of Ed Waline for about 30 minutes. I got back and my wallet, Ipod and cell were all gone. Good thing with the help of some great citizens and teh excellent work of WCSO teh criminals were caught and prosecuted for felony. I wave since learned my lesson and lock my vehicle. We all need to watch out for each other and stop or question any suspicious behavior.

As a frequent beach visitor, I believe a big part of the problem is that when people maked it from the cities to the beach, we relax totally and put our brains in neutral. I have threatened to put a sign on my dash that reads...lock the...car. My family resists. Maybe something that would administer a dopeslap to any driver that does not lock their car

After a divorce, I decided to lock my doors, my house was robbed and my large dog was in the house. When my father died in 1990, my mother started to lock her doors and she was robbed......

Needless to say, it is still more safe to lock up, but if someone wants to get in, they will. Even here in Sowal.

You sound just like Mr. K.

What SGG says is true for home burglaries. It is unfortunate that it happens.

As far as cars, especially when you are at the public beach accesses, restaurants, resorts, etc down here, do be aware that a favorite teenage activity in these parts is "car-hopping." This normally involves unlocked vehicles and kids looking for cigs/beer/spare change but has been much worse in some cases. And you can bet that if a kid sees your cell phone, etc sitting there unattended, it's gone. And then there are the more savvy burglars...:bang:
