Today, while reading through the ads in the Walton Sun, I notice an ad for Colonial Bank which reads, "Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer."
Can anyone explain to me how an employer can be both? I thought this was an oxymoron.:idontno:

So true.

They have probably had a Federal compliance review in the past and are trying to cover their -sses. We were just a tiny little construction company and got a job that was partially Federally funded. By the time I got through the review on our employment policies I learned you can not have enough gobbley gook to throw at them. Went from a one page employment policy to a hand book, a 10 page application form and extra large bottle of Tylenol.

i always thought EOE = affirmative action = code word for 'quota system' in government-speak

I thought that the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) regulated employers so that employers would not discriminate based on:
-age
-disability
-national origin
-pregnancy
-race
-religion
-sex

...while Affirmative Action gave some people a foot up.

I totally agree with you. It makes no sense. Semantics are important!

Yet another reason I'm leaving corporate America.
