Cork On the Ocean

directionally challenged
Sorry I've been gone so long but very busy. This board gets great exposure to people all over the south so please read and cross post the following as many places as you can. Anything that you can do helps the situation:

*** URGENT ***

THE STARVING ANIMALS OF HURRICANE KATRINA NEED YOU NOW

Today in New Orleans, we had ONLY FIVE PEOPLE to feed the THOUSANDS
of Katrina animals who remain on the streets. These animals are trying
to stay alive long enough for their people to return or to be rescued.

Animal Rescue New Orleans (www.animalrescueneworleans.com) has
mapped OVER 2,800 Food/Water locations that need to be refilled !! MOST Food/Water stations are not refilled for over a WEEK because we don't have enough people to feed the animals.

It is desperate there. The animals are starving again and rescue work is still going on. Two more emaciated dogs came in yesterday....

PLEASE GO FEED THE STARVING ANIMALS.

If you can't go yourself, then help spread the word that we need more volunteers. Crosspost far and wide.

THIS IS URGENT.

There are still thousands of people's emaciated pets hanging on and now they will die on the streets. They need you, for a day or a weekend or a week. Whatever you can. Try to find it in your heart to give up one weekend of your time. There are hotels open now and places where you can be comfortable but the animals need you to work a 12-14 hour day -- to refill over 100 Food/Water stations a day. It's the only chance they have to stay alive. We used to keep them well-fed but there's no longer enough feeders.

If you can't go, you can help from your computer by searching the hundreds of boards and databases to locate pets that people are looking for. I will show you how.

Please if you can help either by feeding or reuniting, email me directly and I will set you up with an organization who will welcome your help.

If you are thinking of buying a pet, PLEASE, PLEASE save a pet. All breeds, need homes, yes there are puppies and kittens. I gave my parents a persian rescue kitten (8 wks old) and I've adopted a rare Chinese Crested. She's absolutely perfect! Never gone on the floor and loves me to pieces and ADORES walks on the beach. She's just so happy to be safe again.

We have filled shelters across the nation with rescued pets and can no longer find places to send ones that are still out on the streets of NOLA. You can adopt any pet from any local shelter to make space for more Katrina pets still being pulled from the destruction. Send this link www.Operation-Save-A-Pet-Katrina.com to anyone you know who loves animals or go the www.Petfinder.com to search nationwide for pets who need homes. For every pet that you buy from a breeder, another one will die. If you are thinking of getting a pet and don't want to search the databases, please email me and I will try to find what you're looking for. Yes, one action by one person makes a difference.

Sorry, don't mean to be on a soapbox but if you could hold just one of these poor creatures, it would break any feeling person's heart.

Thanks Kurt, for the opportunity to share.

The little pup on the left is about to get adopted tomorrow because of your post Cork. She was scheduled for euthanasia this Thursday, but this little Border Collie/Australian Shephard mix will now be residing in South Walton instead - assuming all goes okay tomorrow!

BTW...her new name is Luckie.

PS: There are two more females in her litter...in case anyone here wants me to pick one up for them.

Pgurney, where is this puppy?

Kisses for Luckie and for you!

Looks like we're rescuing the other black-and-white. Pgurney's on her way right now, and if they're all healthy and happy, they're all coming home! Most likely we'll foster her, give her the love and training to make her a great pet for someone, then find her a permanent place. But who knows...truth be told I wouldn't be surprised if we fall in love. And maybe Bailey needs a friend, we aren't ruling anything out.
