The Fiesta of Five Flags

logo_fiesta.png

The Fiesta of Five Flags organization was formed to celebrate the founding of Pensacola. In 1559, Spanish Conquistador, Don Tristan de Luna, established Pensacola as the first European settlement in the United States. Since that time five different flags have flown over the City: Spanish, French, British, Confederate, and American. Fiesta plans and produces over 20 events throughout the year with the help of a plethora of volunteers. These events are designed to appeal to all ages and interests, as well as promote tourism for the area. Fiesta has always been a significant celebration for the Pensacola Bay Area. A 10-day heritage celebration, held the first two weeks in June, is one of the oldest and largest heritage festivals in the State of Florida.
[h=2]Mission:[/h]To celebrate our heritage, promote tourism and build pride in Pensacola through festive activities which enhance the quality of life in our community.
[h=2]Vision:[/h]To encourage and help perpetuate in the minds of people, near and far, Pensacola’s rich and diverse history and continually foster pride and spirit in our community.

Pensacola took that rag down. You need to brush up on current events .

But they are still the City of Five Flags with annual events and celebrations of the city and all its flags of history. The confederate flag was recently replaced with the state flag on city and county land. But the celebration of all its history continues.

I think that is fine to continue a celebration of all flags. Don't you?

Yes! Pensacola is known as The City of Five Flags with a major celebration each year, and other events to celebrate their heritage and history. A confederate flag isn't necessary to fly over their grounds in order to do this.

But it always did until very recently. This was the example I used in my defense of the flag - Pensacola removed the battle flag long ago.

If the Confederate flag was replaced with the State of Florida flag, would that satisfy the folks that oppose the Confederate flag?

I believe it would. Pensacola removed the divisive symbol and that's the whole idea. The state flag includes a lot of historic symbolism including the confederacy, so why not use it as a replacement? Works for me.
