Holiday Shopping

So did any of you brave the hordes of shoppers on "Black Friday?" Any hearty souls out there who were at the starting gate at 6 am sharp? Anyone snag any good bargains?

Mermaid pleads to sloth. I woke up at 9 am thinking "Oh man! Some people have been shopping for at least three hours now!" (and in my secret heart of coal I was also feeling "better them than me" ;-) )

I read in the paper today that the Monday after Thanksgiving is starting to be known as "Cyber Monday." Everyone who was trampled in the mall on Friday hits their computer on Monday to continue with online shopping. Supposedly there are all sorts of cyber bargains out there.

My husband went out early for the first time ever, trying to get a cheap laptop. He learned his lesson--5 a.m. actually means 3:30 a.m. :floor: He came home empty-handed, needless to say.

So he was at Walmart...that was an incredible deal. Do you know what time they sold out? I did that last year for a DVD player at Kohls. I got there at 6am and they were sold out. I vowed...never again. So I did not go shopping yesterday. I did buy shop online though but that doesn't really count.

No, Circuit City. We don't shop at Walmart!
He said it was immediately; by 5:00, they were all gone.

Today's paper had an article about how seashells are the "in" thing once more. They listed a website for online shopping so of course I had to check it out. I've been playing around with seashells for years. Look what I found! It's a mirror made of shells, exactly like I've been making forever (have gluegun; will travel). Nice to know stuff like mine is selling for almost $2 grand! Whew.

I think I might do some holiday shopping on overstocks.com, thank you very much.

Peapod, the same thing that happened to your husband happened to mine, too. One year he made a beeline to BestBuys for some computer thingie or another, and of course it was gone from the shelves in two seconds flat. He hasn't ventured out at 6 am since.

I saw some shell pieces in Town & Country mag- was just reading about them the other night. They are really beautiful - I would love to see your shell pieces. And BTW- I am not a subscriber! I don't have enough jewels to be worthy! :floor: But my mom is and I raid her mag stash!

jdarg, you could make that Atlantis shell mirror so easily! Anyone could. All you need is a bunch of shells (try going to Sanibel Island for years on spring break and it's not hard to do). All you need is TIME. It does take a while to play around with the shells to make the arrangement pretty--but it's certainly not rocket science, and unless some of those shells on the website are rare or something, I honestly can't see where they get off charging $1800+ for it!

I can't make mudpies. Honestly. My MIL gave me a hot glue gun for Christmas one year. Everyone thought it was REAL freakin' funny. Except me. I didn't even know how to plug it in. :idontno:

That's okay jdarg.....you have animals to keep and love. Leave the glue gun for others....in the wrong hands they can burn the dickens out of your fingers!!! You could start small on a project....I glued some very small shells on the rim of a lampshade and it was just the right touch.
