Beach Fanatic
Yes, they do exists and neither SoWal nor Defuniak Springs is exempt. What's the solution?
Well, what's been done in part thanks to County Commissioner's and Emergency Management the Coastal Branch Library was shut down the day temperatures dropped below 40 degrees, leaving the homeless population out in freezing temps because some folks in SoWal don't want the "seedier element" (as they were called) on their beaches or in their neighborhoods. Guess what? The homeless are still there.
In Defuniak, a rich, local realtor who spends an exorbitant amount of money buying newspaper ads that keep the paper afloat went before the City Council "requesting guidance" (according to the local paper) on how to deal with the homeless who are mucking up his views in the Historic District, replete with images of the homeless that were posted on the City's website. What he actually requested was that the historic, landmark "Opinion Place" be shut down calling them alcoholics, drug addicts and a threat to public safety even though they have not committed any crimes that local law enforcement can arrest them for. That won't make them go away either but it is how some rich folks think the problem should be handled.
I don't know what the solution is but I do know that there are many people in this Community willing to try and work with the homeless population here if people were not so arrogant and snooty going around closing the few resources that's actually trying to do something to make a difference.
