How should we balance the Florida budget?

New posts
I don't think there's any chance of the corporate tax rate being cut, at least not this year. IMHO this was a dumb thing to push right now by Scott. The overall effect on business here isn't that major (5.5% is already low compared to other states) and the revenue (about 2 billion) is not that signifigant either. All it does is make Scott look bad. He should drop the subject.
He isn't exactly batting 1000 with "smart" ideas.

The WI governor/protests are the only thing keeping us from sweeping the stupidest state awards in 2011.

Well, that is certainly debatable. The posts I see here deriding all he is doing are not exactly the most intelligent ideas I've seen, either. That is mostly due to the fact they aren't really ideas, they are just griping with no solutions, which, whether you like them or not he is offfering. He won the election. I don't care if it was 1% or 100%. He has the right because of that fact to propose anything legal he wishes just like the idiot we have in the White House is doing. At least he isn't on the TV every day. Some need to learn, and only a higher being knows how, that we cannot sustain our present path. While you're at it, SB, knock Christie as well. N.J. is in the best shape right now in less than two years, that it has been in, in the last twenty or longer.

Just so you are aware, I have yet to call Governor Scott a crook or fraud or an idiot, just like I have not done with any of the previous Presidents of the United States, but calling the President of the United States an idiot is disrespectful to the office he was elected to. Although I don't agree with everything he does he is still my President whether I voted for him or not and I believe you are out of line. IMHO

Our President is doing what he said he would do when he was running for election. Those of us who paid more attention to policy than birth certificates know that.

He's on the TV alot because he's our President and it's part of his job. Likewise Governor Scott does a weekly radio address and holds press conferences.

Scott is proposing some dumb ideas - not ideas I might disagree with due to political differences or implementation, but some non-partisanly stupid ideas.

Spending millions to build golf courses in state parks when both existing public and private golf courses are seeing a lack of patronage - stupid.

Cutting corporate and property taxes when they are already some of the lowest in the country and we are facing a budget crisis due to lack of income - stupid.

Getting rid of recently enacted rules/policies to cut down on pill mills in a state with a massive problem - stupid.

Why would I knock Christie? I don't live in Jersey.

I would add to the list:

ignoring the duly elected Legislature and trying to diminish the Judicial Branch of our state government.
Government is not a business and his job is not CEO.
It is stupid to ignore the checks and balances of our system.

I actually had a good suggestion to increase revenue, then saw that, got pissed, and forgot to post it.

Florida needs to collect online sales tax.

I know this is an issue due to rules about stores not having a physical presence, but IMO in this day and age we need to address it.

Other states do not require online retailers to collect the tax, but they do require them to keep track and send an annual notice telling people what they owe.

Considering the large increases in online shopping, we should jump on this.
