Here's my salsa recipe:

1 can of Red Gold petite diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can white corn, drained
Lime juice, fresh minced garlic, cilantro and chopped onions to your liking
You can also add 1 or 2 chopped avocados, but this adds fat (though it's good fat.) Doesn't keep as long this way, either. But it's a really nice addition.

this salsa looks yummy! will try it! thanks lindabobhat!
:D

I think I can help you out here. I've lost 60 lbs. now and I don't starve myself. One of my favorite snacks is hummus with sesame flatbread (I found this brand at Jewel and Dominick's called "Ak-mak" - 100% whole wheat stone ground sesame crackers. They are usually by the Ry-krisp and melba toast. 5 good sized crackers have 116 calories and 3.5 grams of fiber and they are really good.) The store bought hummus is ok - probably better to make your own or go to Pita Inn in Wheeling (just south of Dundee on Elmhurst Rd. Probably not too far for you.) If you like Middle Eastern food, I highly recommend it - not fancy but really good and not expensive at all!

I also like black bean salsa with baked tortilla chips.

Nuts and pretzels are good, too, but put your portion in a bowl and don't eat right out of the package - too easy to overindulge. My hubby is a great one for getting a bag of chips and before he knows it, he's eaten half the bag.

Hope this helps!

Fabulous! Congrats on your weight loss. Does your back feel any better? I'll try the recipe and ideas. I wonder if we shop at the same Jewel?!!

WOW that is great!!!!! How did you do it?????

Low fat, high fiber foods for the most part. Lots of complex carbs. I religiously read food labels. I don't eat any butter or margarine. And 30-45 minutes of cardio at least 6 days a week. I also see my doctor every month and get my blood pressure checked and a weigh-in to keep myself in check.

I had gained most of the weight after my kids were born and my hubby had a rather serious accident that was rather life changing for all of us. I was eating a lot of junky, convenient food since my life was so "stressful." Right after my 42nd birthday, I decided it was time to stop making excuses and get my life back in order. I ate this way before my kids were born and it was easier because I had more time to prepare healthy foods. Now the time factor is more difficult to manage, but the variety of prepared healthy foods and ingredients at the grocery store is much better than it used to be. My grocery bill is higher, but it's definitely worth it.

Thanks so much for the encouragement, KD and RO!!!!!

Thanks so much! OMG - my back is so much better. One of many benefits of weight loss. I usually shop at the Jewel right by my house at Dempster and Elmhurst. It needs a remodel, but it's too convenient. The one at Golf and Arl. Hts. road is so much nicer, but a little out of the way. I get lost in that one!

That's my Jewel.
I'm so glad to hear your back is better! That's an added benefit for sure!

Cute pix of your kids, I presume!

Y'all might have had a cart ramming incident and didn't even know it. It's easy to lose your cool when you're diet hungry. :D

I have been a fatty most of my life. A few years back I lost 50 lbs. That actually got me too skinny (according to GB  ). I have never ballooned back up that big though. I rarely ever weigh. I just go by how my clothes fit and look in the mirror in the mornings  .

I had a feeling that was your Jewel. And yes, that was the kids last night. Guess I wasn't quite the Valentine scrooge I professed to be; I made them each their own little heart shaped pizza (followed by my own healthy dinner of shrimp, spinach and roma tomatoes with multi-grain pasta!)

Wow, LBH, I am very impressed! With your weight loss ( awesome!) and your heart shaped pizzas! Cute kids too!

My favorite snack when dieting is probably the suger free jello and puddings with Lite Cool Whip.
